Understanding frame data is crucial for high-level play. Frame data refers to the number of frames (1/60th of a second) an attack takes to start up, hit, and recover. Key concepts:

  • Startup Frames: How long it takes for an attack to become active. Faster startup means quicker hits.
  • Active Frames: The duration an attack can hit.
  • Recovery Frames: How long it takes for a character to return to a neutral state after an attack. Longer recovery means more vulnerable.
  • On Hit/Block Advantage: The number of frames you are plus (+) or minus (-) after an attack hits or is blocked.
    • Plus Frames (+): You recover faster than your opponent, allowing you to attack again before they can. This is crucial for pressure.
    • Minus Frames (-): Your opponent recovers faster than you, allowing them to attack you before you can act. This means you are vulnerable.

Use the Training Mode's frame data display to analyze your character's moves and your opponent's. Knowing which moves are plus on block allows you to continue pressure, while knowing which are minus helps you punish.
