Key Mechanics:

  • Focus Attack (MP + MK): This is a powerful defensive and offensive tool. When charged, it absorbs one hit and can crumple an opponent, leaving them vulnerable to a combo. It can also be dash-canceled forward or backward to create openings or escape pressure.
  • EX Special Moves: By performing a special move input with two punch or kick buttons, you can execute an enhanced version of that move. EX moves often have faster startup, more hits, or invincibility frames, costing one segment of your Super Meter.
  • Super Combos: These are powerful, cinematic attacks that consume your entire Super Meter. They deal significant damage and can often be used to finish off opponents or extend combos.
  • Ultra Combos: Unique to Street Fighter IV, Ultra Combos are devastating attacks that consume your entire Revenge Gauge. The Revenge Gauge fills as you take damage, making Ultras a comeback mechanic. Each character has two Ultra Combos, often with different properties.
  • Red Focus Attack: A more powerful version of the Focus Attack, performed by pressing LP+MP+MK. It absorbs multiple hits and has higher damage potential, but costs two segments of your Super Meter.
  • Guard Break: Repeatedly blocking attacks can lead to a Guard Break, leaving your character temporarily stunned and vulnerable. Mix up your defense with parries and evasions to avoid this.

Understanding when and how to utilize these mechanics is crucial for high-level play. Practice their execution and timing in Training Mode.
