Pounce Bounce Isle
Welcome to Pounce Bounce Isle, a vibrant and vertically-oriented island within Bowser's Fury that lives up to its name! This area is characterized by its numerous bouncy platforms, springboards, and towering structures, demanding precise platforming and keen observation to uncover all its secrets. Mastering the art of the bounce will be key to collecting all the Cat Shines here.
Recommended Power-ups & Strategy
- Super Bell (Cat Mario): Absolutely essential for Pounce Bounce Isle. Cat Mario's wall climb and pounce attack are invaluable for reaching higher ledges and navigating the vertical challenges. The pounce attack is also crucial for breaking specific blocks.
- Super Leaf (Tanooki Mario): While not strictly necessary, the Tanooki Suit can offer a bit of extra airtime and a gentle descent, which can be helpful for correcting misjudged jumps.
- Boomerang Flower (Boomerang Mario): Useful for collecting distant coins or hitting switches from afar, though less critical than the Super Bell for this specific island.
General Strategy: Always look up! Many secrets and paths are hidden above. Utilize the bouncy platforms to gain significant height, and remember that a well-timed Ground Pound can often reveal hidden items or break specific blocks. The "springboard" mechanic refers to the numerous bouncy platforms scattered across the island, which are integral to its design, rather than a specific power-up.
Cat Shine #1: Reaching the Summit
This is typically the first Cat Shine players will encounter and serves as an introduction to the island's verticality.
- Initial Ascent: From the starting point, immediately begin ascending the series of bouncy platforms. These platforms will propel you upwards with each bounce.
- Mid-level Platforming: You'll encounter several smaller, static platforms interspersed with more bouncy ones. Use these to catch your breath and adjust your trajectory.
- Wall Climbing: Near the top, you'll reach a section with tall, sheer walls. This is where the Super Bell becomes indispensable. Use Cat Mario's wall climb ability to scale these walls. Look for paw prints or slight indentations on the walls that indicate climbable surfaces.
- Final Bounces: After the wall climb, a final series of bouncy platforms will lead directly to the summit.
- Collect the Shine: The Cat Shine will be prominently displayed at the very top of the island. Jump to collect it.
Common Pitfall: Missing a bounce and falling all the way down. Try to land in the center of bouncy platforms for maximum height and control. If you fall, don't get discouraged; the ascent is relatively quick once you get the rhythm.
Cat Shine #2: Ground Pounding the Blocks
This Cat Shine requires a keen eye and the powerful Ground Pound move, ideally performed by Cat Mario for added impact.
- Locate the Suspicious Blocks: From the island's base, head towards the eastern side. Look for a cluster of dark, cracked blocks on a lower ledge, slightly hidden behind some foliage. These blocks are distinct from regular unbreakable blocks.
- Transform into Cat Mario: If you don't already have it, find a Super Bell. There's often one hidden in a nearby ? Block or dropped by an enemy.
- Perform a Ground Pound: Position Cat Mario directly above the cracked blocks. Execute a Ground Pound (jump, then press ZL/ZR + A/B in mid-air). Cat Mario's Ground Pound is particularly effective.
- Reveal the Path: The blocks will shatter, revealing a hidden alcove or a short tunnel.
- Enter the Hidden Area: Proceed into the newly opened path.
- Collect the Shine: The Cat Shine will be waiting inside this secret area.
Strategy Tip: Sometimes, the blocks might require multiple Ground Pounds if you're not Cat Mario. Always prioritize having the Super Bell for this task.
Cat Shine #3: Collecting the Time-Limited Coins
This challenge tests your speed and platforming precision under pressure.
- Find the P-Switch: The P-Switch for this challenge is located on a mid-level platform on the western side of the island. It's usually near a small group of Goombas or a single Fuzzball.
- Hit the P-Switch: Jump on or Ground Pound the P-Switch. This will cause a trail of blue coins to appear in a specific pattern around the island. A timer will also begin counting down.
- Follow the Coin Trail: The coins typically lead you on a circuitous route, often involving a mix of bouncy platforms, wall climbs, and narrow ledges. The path is designed to be challenging but traversable within the time limit.
- Utilize Cat Mario: The Super Bell is highly recommended here. Cat Mario's increased speed and wall-climbing ability will be crucial for navigating the course quickly.
- Collect All Coins: You must collect every single blue coin before the timer runs out. Missing even one will require you to hit the P-Switch again and restart the challenge.
- Claim Your Reward: Once all coins are collected, the Cat Shine will appear at the end of the coin trail, or sometimes back near the P-Switch's location.
Common Pitfall: Getting stuck on a wall or missing a jump. Practice the route a few times without hitting the P-Switch to familiarize yourself with the path. Don't rush blindly; precise, quick movements are better than frantic, uncontrolled ones.
Cat Shine #4: Furious Frenzy (Bowser's Fury Exclusive)
This Cat Shine only becomes available during a Bowser's Fury event. When Bowser attacks, the island undergoes significant changes.
- Wait for Bowser's Fury: This Cat Shine cannot be obtained until Bowser awakens and initiates a "Furious Frenzy."
- Locate the Fury Blocks: During Bowser's attack, look for glowing, black-and-orange "Fury Blocks" that appear on Pounce Bounce Isle. These blocks are impervious to normal attacks.
- Lure Bowser's Fire Breath: Position yourself near the Fury Blocks. When Bowser unleashes his fiery breath, maneuver so that his attack hits the blocks.
- Destroy the Blocks: Bowser's fire breath is the only way to destroy these special blocks. Once they are destroyed, they will reveal a hidden area or a path to the Cat Shine.
- Collect the Shine: The Cat Shine will be in the newly accessible area. Be quick, as Bowser's Fury doesn't last forever!
Strategy Tip: Pay attention to Bowser's targeting reticle. It will indicate where his fire breath is about to strike. Use this to your advantage to guide his attack towards the Fury Blocks. Sometimes, multiple sets of blocks need to be destroyed.
Collectibles and Hidden Items
- Cat Coins: Each island typically has 5 Cat Coins. On Pounce Bounce Isle, these are often found on precarious ledges, behind small structures, or requiring slightly off-path jumps from the main ascent. Keep an eye out for them during your first ascent for the "Reaching the Summit" Cat Shine.
- ? Blocks: Numerous ? Blocks are scattered around. These often contain Super Bells, Super Stars (for temporary invincibility during Bowser's Fury), or coins.
- Hidden Blocks: As always, jump in suspicious-looking empty spaces, especially near walls or above bouncy platforms, to reveal hidden blocks containing coins or power-ups.
Pounce Bounce Isle is a fantastic test of your platforming prowess. Take your time, master the bouncy platforms, and utilize Cat Mario's abilities to conquer its vertical challenges!
