Vanish Cap Mario

The Vanish Cap is a temporary power-up that makes Mario transparent and intangible. This ability is activated by striking a blue ! Block, but only after Mario has activated the blue switch in the Vanish Cap secret level. In its Vanish Cap state, Mario gains the unique ability to pass through certain walls, fences, and even some enemies without taking damage. This is an absolutely essential mechanic for accessing many hidden areas and collecting Power Stars that are otherwise unreachable. For example, certain pathways or platforms might be blocked by solid walls that only Vanish Cap Mario can traverse. The duration of the Vanish Cap is limited, so players must use its intangibility strategically and efficiently to reach their objectives before the power-up wears off. Mastering the timing and application of the Vanish Cap is key to unlocking the full potential of exploration in Super Mario 64.
