1-Up Mushrooms grant Mario an extra life. They are often found in hidden spots, by defeating certain enemies, or by collecting 50 coins. While not directly contributing to star collection, having extra lives is always beneficial, especially when tackling challenging platforming sections or boss fights. These precious mushrooms can be obtained in several ways. Some are hidden within blocks that need to be broken, while others appear after completing specific enemy sequences or by reaching certain coin thresholds. For example, collecting 50 yellow coins in any given course will often result in a 1-Up Mushroom appearing. Certain enemies, when defeated in a specific manner or in a particular order, might also drop a 1-Up. It's also common to find them in secret areas or by performing advanced maneuvers. Always keep an eye out for these green, spotted fungi, as they can be the difference between success and having to restart a difficult section. Conserving your lives is a key strategy for completing the game, especially when aiming for 100% completion.
