Coins (Yellow, Red, Blue)

Coins serve multiple purposes in Super Mario 64. Yellow coins are the most common currency, restoring a small amount of Mario's health upon collection and are abundant throughout all levels. Collecting a total of 100 yellow coins in any given course will award you a Power Star. Red coins are special collectibles; there are always 8 in each course, and collecting all 8 will make a Power Star appear in a desated location within that course. These are often hidden and require more diligent searching. Blue coins are rarer and are typically revealed after hitting a blue ! Block. Collecting these blue coins often grants a sificant number of points towards your coin total, and in some cases, they are worth more than standard yellow coins, often counting as 5 or 10 yellow coins towards the 100-coin star. Mastering coin collection is crucial for both survival and for obtaining all the Power Stars available in the game.
