The three Power-Up Caps—the Wing Cap, Metal Cap, and Vanish Cap—represent temporary but immensely powerful enhancements to Mario's capabilities. These caps are not found lying around; instead, they are activated by striking their corresponding colored ! Blocks. However, this activation is contingent upon a prior action: pressing the giant switch within each of their respective secret levels. Once activated, the Wing Cap bestows upon Mario the ability to fly, allowing him to traverse vast distances and reach seemingly inaccessible areas. The Metal Cap transforms Mario into a metallic form, making him impervious to most damage and allowing him to sink rapidly in water, which is crucial for underwater exploration. The Vanish Cap, on the other hand, makes Mario intangible, enabling him to phase through specific walls and barriers. These caps are not merely cosmetic; they are indispensable tools for overcoming specific challenges and uncovering hidden pathways and Power Stars throughout the game.
