Course 10: Wet-Dry World
Welcome to Wet-Dry World, a unique and often perplexing course where the water level is your greatest tool and obstacle. Mastering the water mechanics is key to uncovering all its secrets. This guide will walk you through each star, ensuring you don't miss a single collectible.
Star 1: Secrets in the Shallows & Sky
For your first star, we'll be exploring the lower reaches and the sky-high platforms. Begin by entering the course with the water level set to its lowest point (jump into the painting at its very bottom).
- Initial Exploration: From your starting point, head straight forward. You'll notice a small, raised platform with a red coin. Collect it.
- Red Coin Hunt (Ground Level): There are eight red coins scattered around the lowest water level.
- One is on the initial raised platform.
- Another is near the entrance, on a small ledge to the left.
- Two are in the central area, often requiring a short jump or wall kick to reach.
- One is hidden behind a block near the back wall.
- The remaining three are typically found on small, isolated platforms or ledges around the perimeter. Keep an eye out for any suspicious-looking blocks or corners.
- Raising the Water: Once you've collected all eight red coins, the star will appear on a high platform in the center of the course. To reach it, you'll need to raise the water level. Locate the blue switch on the ground level (it's usually near the back wall, often requiring a short swim or jump to access). Punching this switch will raise the water to its highest level.
- Reaching the Star: With the water at its highest, swim to the central platform where the star has appeared. Perform a wall kick or a well-timed triple jump to grab your first star!
Star 2: Top of the Town
This star requires you to reach the very top of the "town" area. Enter Wet-Dry World with the water at its highest level (jump into the painting at its very top).
- Ascending the Blocks: From your starting point, swim forward and look for a series of yellow and blue blocks forming a staircase-like structure. These blocks are submerged at the highest water level.
- Navigating the Platforms: Carefully jump and climb your way up these blocks. Be mindful of the Chuckyas and other enemies that may try to knock you off.
- The High Platform: Continue climbing until you reach a large, flat platform at the very top. The star will be waiting for you there. This star is relatively straightforward once you master the climbing.
Star 3: Express Elevator -- Hurry Up!
This star involves a timed challenge and requires quick reflexes. Enter the course with the water at its lowest level.
- Locate the Elevator: From the start, head towards the back of the course. You'll see a large, square platform that acts as an elevator.
- Activate the Switch: Near the elevator, there's a red switch. Ground pound it to activate the elevator.
- The Race Against Time: As soon as you hit the switch, the elevator will begin to rise. Quickly jump onto it. You need to ride it all the way to the top before it descends again.
- Grabbing the Star: At the very top of the elevator's ascent, the star will appear on a small ledge. Jump off the elevator to grab it before it starts its descent. If you miss it, you'll have to try again.
Star 4: Go to Town for the Red Coins
Similar to Star 1, this star involves collecting eight red coins, but this time they are located within the "town" area. Enter the course with the water at its highest level.
- Entering the Town: From your starting point, swim towards the large, open area that resembles a town square.
- Red Coin Locations (Town):
- Several red coins are on the rooftops of the buildings. You'll need to perform wall kicks and triple jumps to reach them.
- One is often found inside a small, open building.
- Another is on a high platform accessible by swimming and jumping.
- Look for coins on ledges and behind structures. The town is quite vertical, so explore all levels.
- A helpful tip: some coins are often found near the Chuckya enemies.
- Star Appearance: Once all eight red coins are collected, the star will appear in a prominent location within the town, usually on a central rooftop or a high platform.
Star 5: Scale the Building
This star challenges your climbing skills to reach the very top of the tallest building in the course. Enter with the water at its lowest level.
- Locate the Tall Building: From the start, head towards the back of the course and identify the tallest building. It's usually a multi-story structure.
- Wall Kicks and Ledges: Begin your ascent by performing a series of precise wall kicks. use any small ledges or indentations on the building's exterior to regain your footing.
- Hidden Blocks: Keep an eye out for invisible blocks that can be revealed by punching them. These often provide crucial stepping stones.
- The Summit: Continue your vertical climb. The star will be waiting for you at the very pinnacle of the building. This star requires patience and good platforming technique.
Star 6: Switch Star of the Sky
This star involves activating a hidden switch to reveal a star high in the sky. Enter the course with the water at its lowest level.
- Locate the Cannon: From the start, head to the far back-left corner of the course. You'll find a cannon there.
- Enter the Cannon: Jump into the cannon.
- Aim for the Switch: Aim the cannon towards a distant, isolated platform high in the sky. On this platform, you'll see a yellow "!" switch.
- Launch and Activate: Fire Mario from the cannon and land on the platform. Ground pound the yellow "!" switch.
- Grab the Star: A star will immediately appear on the same platform. Quickly grab it before it disappears!
100 Coin Star
Collecting 100 coins in Wet-Dry World can be tricky due to the varying water levels. Here's a strategy to maximize your coin count:
- Start Low: Begin the course with the water at its lowest level. Collect all the visible coins on the ground and any red coins from "Secrets in the Shallows & Sky" that you haven't already.
- Mid-Level Coins: Raise the water to a medium level (by hitting the blue switch once). This will reveal new platforms and areas with coins. Explore thoroughly.
- High-Level Coins: Finally, raise the water to its highest level. Swim through the "town" area, collecting all the coins on rooftops and ledges. Don't forget the red coins from "Go to Town for the Red Coins" if you haven't collected them yet.
- Enemy Coins: Defeat all the enemies you encounter, as many of them drop coins. The Chuckyas are particularly good for this.
- Hidden Blocks: Punch any suspicious-looking blocks, as they often contain coins.
- Coin Blocks: Look for yellow coin blocks scattered throughout the course. Each one can yield several coins.
By systematically exploring all three water levels and defeating enemies, you should be able to reach the 100-coin target without too much difficulty.
