Course 7: Lethal Lava Land

Welcome to Lethal Lava Land, a fiery domain where precision platforming and strategic combat are key. This course is notorious for its scorching lava, which instantly damages Mario upon contact, so tread carefully! We'll guide you through each star, helping you navigate the perilous landscape and overcome its fiery inhabitants.

Star 1: Boil the Big Bully

Your first objective in Lethal Lava Land is to confront the Big Bully. From the start, head straight across the initial platforms. You'll need to jump across several moving platforms and then a series of stationary ones, all while avoiding the lava below. Keep an eye out for small Bullies that will try to push you into the molten rock; a well-timed punch or kick will send them packing.

Once you reach the large, circular arena in the center of the course, you'll find the Big Bully. The strategy here is simple: outmaneuver him and knock him into the lava. Use your ground pound (Z + A) or a well-placed punch (B) to push him. Be patient, as he's quite resilient and will try to charge you. Circle strafe around him, waiting for an opening, then unleash your attack. After a few successful shoves, he'll tumble into the lava, and your first Power Star will appear on the platform he was guarding.

Star 2: Bully the Bullies

For your second star, you'll be dealing with more Bullies, but this time, they're guarding a specific area. From the course entrance, make your way to the right side of the main area. You'll see a series of platforms leading towards a raised section with a large, square platform. On this platform, you'll encounter a group of smaller Bullies. Your goal is to knock all of them into the lava.

This can be a bit tricky, as they often gang up on Mario. Focus on one Bully at a time, using your standard punch (B) or kick (A after a run) to push them towards the edge. Remember that a well-timed jump can help you avoid their charges. Once all the Bullies on this specific platform have been dispatched into the fiery depths, the Power Star will materialize in their place.

Star 3: Red-Hot Log Rolling

This star requires some careful platforming over a series of rotating logs. From the start, head towards the left side of the main area. You'll eventually come to a section with a large, brown, cylindrical log slowly rotating over a pool of lava. This is the beginning of the "Red-Hot Log Rolling" challenge.

To cross, you'll need to run across the log as it rotates. The key is to keep moving and adjust your position as the log turns. If you stand still for too long, you'll fall into the lava. After the first log, there will be a small, safe platform, followed by another rotating log. Continue this pattern, carefully navigating each log. At the end of this perilous path, you'll find a small island with the Power Star waiting for you.

Tip: For an easier time, try to stay near the center of the logs. If you find yourself slipping, a quick jump can sometimes help you regain your footing.

Star 4: Hot-Foot-It into the Volcano

This star takes you inside the fiery volcano at the center of the course. To access the volcano, you'll need to perform a triple jump (A, A, A) onto the large, flat platform directly in front of the volcano's entrance. Once inside, you'll be faced with a challenging vertical climb.

The volcano's interior is a series of platforms, some stationary, some moving, and all surrounded by lava. You'll need to utilize wall kicks (jump towards a wall and press A again to kick off) and precise jumps to ascend. Look for the yellow arrows on the walls, which indicate safe areas for wall kicks. As you climb, you'll encounter several small platforms that periodically sink into the lava; don't linger on these!

Near the top, you'll find a series of small, circular platforms that move in a circular pattern. Time your jumps carefully to land on each one. Finally, you'll reach the very summit of the volcano, where the Power Star awaits. Be careful not to fall on your way down!

Star 5: Elevator Tour in the Volcano

This star also takes place inside the volcano, but this time you'll be using a series of elevators. Enter the volcano as you did for Star 4. Instead of immediately climbing, look for a large, square platform that acts as an elevator. Step onto it, and it will begin to ascend.

As the elevator rises, you'll need to jump off at specific points to reach other platforms and continue your ascent. There will be several smaller, moving platforms that act as intermediate steps. The key here is timing your jumps correctly to avoid falling into the lava below. Some platforms will move horizontally, others vertically, and some will even rotate.

Near the top, you'll encounter a section with several small, square platforms that move up and down in sequence. You'll need to jump from one to the next as they reach their highest point. The Power Star is located on a high platform at the very end of this elevator sequence.

Star 6: 8 Red Coins

Collecting the 8 Red Coins in Lethal Lava Land can be a bit of a scavenger hunt. Here's where to find them:

  • Coin 1: On the first large, square platform you encounter after entering the course, near the initial group of Bullies.
  • Coin 2: On a small, isolated platform to the right of the course entrance, accessible by a careful jump.
  • Coin 3: On one of the rotating logs in the "Red-Hot Log Rolling" area.
  • Coin 4: On the safe platform between the two rotating logs in the "Red-Hot Log Rolling" area.
  • Coin 5: Inside the volcano, on a small platform near the beginning of the ascent.
  • Coin 6: Inside the volcano, on a moving platform during the "Elevator Tour" section.
  • Coin 7: On the large, circular arena where you fought the Big Bully (Star 1).
  • Coin 8: On a small, elevated platform accessible by wall-kicking near the "Bully the Bullies" area (Star 2).

Once you've collected all 8 Red Coins, the Power Star will appear on the large, circular arena where you fought the Big Bully.

Star 7: Get 100 Coins

To earn this star, you'll need to collect a total of 100 coins within Lethal Lava Land. This course offers a good number of coins, but you'll need to be thorough. Here's a breakdown of common coin locations:

  • Yellow Coins: Scattered throughout the course on various platforms, both stationary and moving. Many are found on the main path and around the edges of the lava.
  • Blue Coins: Activated by hitting a Blue Coin Block. There's one located near the entrance to the volcano, on a small platform. Hit it and quickly collect the coins before they disappear.
  • Red Coins: As detailed in Star 6, these 8 coins are worth two yellow coins each, contributing 16 coins to your total.
  • Enemies: Defeating Bullies will often yield a few coins. The small Bullies usually drop 1-3 coins, while the Big Bully drops more.
  • Hidden Blocks: Keep an eye out for invisible blocks that can be revealed by punching them. These often contain a single yellow coin.

A good strategy is to clear out all the easily accessible coins on the main platforms, then venture into the volcano for additional coins. activate the Blue Coin Block! With careful exploration and enemy defeat, reaching 100 coins should be achievable.
