These forms grant Mario the power of flight and other unique abilities, making them incredibly versatile.
- Raccoon Mario: Obtained by collecting a Super Leaf. Raccoon Mario gains a tail, which can be used to perform a 'tail whip' attack (B button) to defeat enemies and break certain blocks. More importantly, by running to fill the P-Meter and then jumping, Raccoon Mario can fly for a short duration by repeatedly pressing the A button. He can also glide by holding A after a jump.
- Tanooki Mario: Obtained by collecting a Tanooki Suit. This is an upgraded version of Raccoon Mario. It has all the abilities of Raccoon Mario (tail whip, flight, glide). Additionally, Tanooki Mario can transform into an invincible statue by pressing Down + B. While in statue form, Mario is invulnerable to all attacks but cannot move. This is excellent for avoiding enemies or falling through dangerous areas.
Both forms are excellent for exploration and bypassing difficult sections. Tanooki Mario's statue ability is particularly useful for tricky enemy placements or avoiding damage in tight spots.
