World 7: Pipe Maze

Welcome to World 7, affectionately known as the "Pipe Maze"! This world is a true test of your platforming prowess and spatial awareness, featuring a dizzying array of pipes that lead to hidden areas, power-ups, and sometimes, right back where you started. Expect to encounter many Piranha Plants, Venus Fire Traps, and even some new aquatic foes. Patience and exploration are key here.

World 7-1

This level introduces you to the pipe-heavy theme of World 7. Start by heading right and dispatching the Goombas. You'll soon come across a series of pipes. The first green pipe you see is a red herring; ignore it for now. Continue right, jumping over the gaps and avoiding the Piranha Plants that pop out of the pipes.

  • First Star Coin (Hidden Block): After the second set of pipes with Piranha Plants, look for a lone block above a small gap. Jump to hit it, revealing a hidden block containing a Star Coin.
  • Power-Up (Question Block): Shortly after the Star Coin, you'll find a Question Block. Hit it for a guaranteed Super Mushroom or Fire Flower if you're already Super Mario.
  • Secret Area (Green Pipe): Further right, you'll see a green pipe that seems to lead nowhere. Enter it to find a small, enclosed area with several coins and a 1-Up Mushroom hidden in a block above.

Proceed through the level, utilizing your power-ups to clear out enemies. Be mindful of the Venus Fire Traps, which spit fireballs at you. The end of the level involves a series of vertical pipes; time your jumps carefully to avoid falling into the gaps. The Goal Card is at the very end, guarded by a final Piranha Plant.

World 7-2

This level features a mix of ground and underground sections, with a focus on navigating water-filled pipes. Begin by moving right, dealing with the Koopa Troopas. You'll quickly encounter a large body of water.

  • Raccoon Leaf (Question Block): Just before the first water section, hit the Question Block to get a Raccoon Leaf. This will be invaluable for flying over obstacles and finding secrets.
  • Underground Passage (Green Pipe): Dive into the water and swim to the right. You'll spot a green pipe at the bottom. Enter it to access an underground area filled with Cheep Cheeps and Bloopers.
  • Star Coin (Underwater): In the underground section, swim to the far right. The Star Coin is located near the ceiling, just before the exit pipe. You'll need to be quick to grab it while avoiding enemies.

Once you exit the underground section, you'll be back above ground. Use your Raccoon Suit to fly over the remaining water hazards or carefully swim through them. Watch out for the Hammer Bros. that appear towards the end of the level. One of them guards a block containing a Super Star, which can make the final stretch much easier.

World 7-3 (Boomerang Bros. Battle)

This is a mini-fortress level, culminating in a battle against two Boomerang Bros. The level itself is straightforward, a short gauntlet of pipes and enemies.

  • Power-Up (Hidden Block): Early in the level, after the first Piranha Plant, jump on the second block from the left in the upper row to reveal a hidden block containing a Super Mushroom.
  • Strategy for Boomerang Bros.: The Boomerang Bros. are formidable. They throw boomerangs that return to them, making them tricky to approach. The best strategy is to wait for them to throw their boomerang, then quickly jump over it and stomp on them. If you have a Fire Flower, you can defeat them with two fireballs each. A Raccoon Suit allows you to tail whip them from a safe distance.

Defeat both Boomerang Bros. to clear the level and gain access to the next section of World 7.

World 7-4 (Underwater Level)

Prepare for an entirely aquatic adventure! This level is filled with water currents, Cheep Cheeps, and Bloopers. Having a Fire Flower or Hammer Suit can be very helpful here, as their projectiles travel underwater.

  • Star Coin (Hidden Block): Near the beginning, swim down and to the right. You'll see a small alcove with a single block. Hit it to reveal a hidden block containing a Star Coin.
  • 1-Up Mushroom (Question Block): About halfway through the level, you'll encounter a series of Question Blocks. One of them contains a 1-Up Mushroom.
  • Navigating Currents: Pay close attention to the direction of the water currents. Some will push you forward, while others will try to pull you back or into enemies. Use short, controlled swimming bursts to counteract strong currents.

The level ends with a long vertical ascent through a pipe, leading you to the Goal Card. Be careful of the final Bloopers guarding the exit.

World 7-5

This level brings back the classic pipe maze feel, with many branching paths and hidden secrets. It's easy to get lost, so take your time and explore.

  • Power-Up (Question Block): Early on, you'll find a Question Block containing a Super Mushroom or Fire Flower.
  • Secret Warp Pipe (Hidden): After navigating a series of vertical pipes, you'll come to an area with several Piranha Plants. Look for a small, inconspicuous green pipe on the ground that seems blocked. If you are Super Mario, you can break the blocks above it and enter. This pipe leads to a secret area with a few coins and a Warp Whistle! This is a rare find and can skip you ahead to World 8.
  • Star Coin (Above Pipes): If you choose not to take the Warp Whistle pipe, continue through the main path. You'll reach a section with many horizontal pipes. The Star Coin is located high above one of these pipes; you'll need to use a Raccoon Suit or a well-timed jump from a higher platform to reach it.

This level can be quite long if you explore all its nooks and crannies. Keep an eye out for hidden blocks and try to remember which pipes lead where.

World 7-6 (P-Switch Puzzle)

This level introduces a classic Mario puzzle element: the P-Switch. You'll need to activate it to turn blocks into coins and vice-versa, allowing you to progress.

  • P-Switch Location: The first P-Switch is found early in the level, on a small platform. Hit it to transform the surrounding blocks into coins.
  • Star Coin (P-Switch Dependent): After hitting the first P-Switch, quickly run to the right. The Star Coin will appear in a newly accessible area that was previously blocked by solid blocks. You'll need to be fast before the P-Switch effect wears off.
  • Power-Up (Hidden Block): Later in the level, after a series of pipes with Venus Fire Traps, look for a lone block. Hit it to reveal a hidden block containing a Super Star.

There are multiple P-Switches throughout this level, each opening new paths or revealing hidden items. Experiment with them to find the optimal route. The exit pipe is located after a final P-Switch puzzle.

World 7-7 (Airship)

The final level of World 7 is an Airship, leading to the boss battle. These levels are always auto-scrolling, so keep moving and don't get left behind!

  • Power-Up (Question Block): Early on, a Question Block will provide a Super Mushroom or Fire Flower.
  • Bullet Bills and Rocky Wrenches: Expect a barrage of Bullet Bills from cannons and Rocky Wrenches popping out of hatches. Stay vigilant and use your power-ups to clear a path.
  • Secret 1-Up (Hidden Block): Towards the middle of the airship, after a section with several cannons, look for a small gap between two metal platforms. Jump in this gap to reveal a hidden block containing a 1-Up Mushroom.

The airship culminates in a battle against one of Bowser's Koopalings. This time, you'll face Ludwig von Koopa.

Boss Battle: Ludwig von Koopa

Ludwig is a tricky opponent. He can jump high, spin in his shell, and fire magic blasts that follow you. The arena is flat, offering little cover.

  • Strategy: Ludwig's main weakness is his head. Wait for him to jump, then quickly run under him and stomp on his head as he lands. After being hit, he'll retreat into his shell and spin rapidly across the screen. Jump over him during this phase. He also fires magic blasts; these can be avoided by jumping or ducking. Three stomps are needed to defeat him. A Fire Flower or Hammer Suit can make this battle significantly easier, as you can hit him from a distance while avoiding his attacks.

Defeat Ludwig to reclaim the Magic Wand and clear World 7!
