Warp Zones are the most significant 'side activity' in Super Mario Bros., allowing you to skip entire worlds and dramatically shorten your playthrough. There are three main Warp Zones:

- World 1-2 Warp Zone: After the moving platforms, jump onto the ceiling above the exit pipe and run right. You'll find pipes leading to World 2, World 3, and World 4.
- World 4-2 Warp Zone: Early in the level, after the first few '?' blocks, jump on the fifth brick block from the left (above a pipe) to reveal a Vine. Climb it to a cloud area with pipes leading to World 6, World 7, and World 8.
- World 8-4 Warp Zone (Negative World): This is a glitch, not an intended feature. In World 8-4, if you enter the first pipe you see (which normally leads to a water section), and then immediately enter the next pipe without moving, you can sometimes glitch into a 'Negative World' (-1). This world is an endless underwater level and is not a legitimate way to progress. It's more of an Easter egg for curious players.
Utilizing the legitimate Warp Zones is essential for speedrunning or simply reaching the later, more challenging worlds faster.
