Collecting 100 coins for an extra life is always a good idea. Some levels are better for coin farming than others. World 1-2 (underground sections) and World 4-2 (cloud area via vine) are excellent for quickly accumulating coins. In these areas, you can often find multiple blocks that release a stream of coins when hit. Additionally, in levels with many '?' blocks, try to hit them all, as many contain single coins. Don't forget that defeating enemies also grants points, and chaining enemy stomps (especially with a Koopa shell) can quickly lead to 1-Ups. Prioritize coin collection, especially if you're low on lives, to ensure a smoother journey.
