Super Mario Land 2, like many Nintendo games, has its share of charming details and references:

• Wario's Debut: This game marks the very first appearance of Wario, who would go on to become a major character and anti-hero in the Mario universe. His design and personality are fully established here.
• Tatanga's Return: The Space Zone boss, Tatanga, is the main antagonist from the original Super Mario Land. His appearance here is a nice nod to the first Game Boy Mario adventure.
