Welcome, fellow adventurer! While the main path through Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins is straightforward, some of the most rewarding challenges and hidden treasures lie off the beaten track. This section will guide you through every secret goal, revealing alternate exits, hidden levels, and valuable power-ups that will aid you on your quest to reclaim Mario's Castle.

Mastering these secret goals often requires specific power-ups or a keen eye for environmental clues. Always consider having a Super Mushroom or Fire Flower in your inventory, and the Carrot (Bunny Mario) is invaluable for its flight capabilities and slower descent. Don't forget that you can store one power-up for later use by pressing the Select button!

Tree Zone

The Tree Zone, with its towering trunks and leafy platforms, holds several crucial secrets that unlock entirely new areas and provide access to one of the six Golden Coins.

Tree Zone 1: The Hidden Vine to a Bonus Area

This secret exit doesn't lead to a new zone on the world map, but rather to a valuable bonus area filled with coins and a 1-Up Mushroom. It's an excellent way to stock up on resources early in the game.

Begin the level and progress past the first few sets of platforms. You'll soon encounter a series of small, green platforms moving horizontally.
After these platforms, you'll reach a section with a few Goombas and a Question Mark Block suspended in the air. Hit this block to reveal a power-up (usually a Super Mushroom or Fire Flower).
Immediately to the right of this Question Mark Block, you'll see a small, brown block embedded in the ground. Jump on top of this block.
From this brown block, jump straight up. A hidden block will appear, and from it, a hidden vine will sprout, extending upwards.
Climb the vine to enter a secret bonus area.
Inside the Bonus Area: You'll find a small room with several coins and a 1-Up Mushroom. Collect your rewards and then exit through the pipe on the right to return to the main level, continuing from a point further ahead.

Common Pitfall: Many players miss the hidden block because it's not a visible Question Mark Block. You must jump directly where it would be, above the brown block, to reveal it.

Tree Zone 3: The Secret Exit to Space Zone

This is the critical secret goal for the Tree Zone, as it's your gateway to the challenging Space Zone and its Golden Coin. Without finding this exit, you cannot collect all 6 Golden Coins!

Play through Tree Zone 3 until you reach the section with the large, rotating platforms that resemble gears or cogs. These platforms are often guarded by Goombas.
Navigate these platforms, moving generally upwards and to the right. You'll eventually come to a point where the path seems to end, with a vertical shaft leading downwards and the standard flagpole visible far below.
Instead of dropping down, look for a small, inconspicuous gap in the ceiling on the far right side of this upper platform, just before the drop-off. It's very easy to miss as it blends with the background.
To reach this gap, you absolutely need to be Bunny Mario. If you don't have a Carrot, try to find one earlier in the level or use one from your inventory.
Position yourself carefully on the edge of the platform directly beneath the ceiling gap. Perform a high jump, then hold the jump button to flutter with Bunny Mario and ascend into the hidden passage.
Follow the short, hidden path to the right. You'll find a green pipe. Enter it.
This pipe leads to a secret exit, bypassing the standard flagpole and instead taking you directly to the Space Zone on the world map. Congratulations, you've found the first Golden Coin area!

Strategy Tip: It's highly recommended to enter Tree Zone 3 with a Carrot already equipped or stored. There are limited opportunities to find one within the level itself, and without Bunny Mario, this secret exit is practically impossible to reach.

Rewards: Access to the Space Zone, which contains one of the 6 Golden Coins.

Macro Zone

The Macro Zone, with its oversized household objects, hides a tricky secret that requires precise platforming and leads to a unique, spider-infested level.

Macro Zone 2: The Alternative Exit to the Spider Level

This secret goal provides an alternate route to a unique level within the Macro Zone, often referred to as the "Spider Level" due to its prominent arachnid inhabitants. This level is not mandatory for completing the game but offers a fun diversion and extra coins.

Play through Macro Zone 2 until you reach the section with the large, moving platforms that resemble dominoes or building blocks. These platforms move horizontally and vertically, creating a dynamic environment.
As you navigate these platforms, you'll eventually reach a point where you need to ascend. Look for a series of these large blocks moving upwards.
Specifically, watch for a large, light-blue block that moves vertically. Ride this block upwards.
At the very top of its vertical path, just as it's about to descend, look to the upper-right side of the screen. You'll see a small, dark opening in the wall, partially obscured by the moving blocks. This opening is your target.
To reach this opening, you'll ideally want to be Bunny Mario. The flutter jump makes the precise ascent much easier, allowing you to fine-tune your position. If you don't have the Carrot, you can try to use a well-timed regular jump from the highest point of the vertically moving block, but it's significantly more challenging and requires perfect timing.
Once you've jumped or fluttered into the opening, proceed through the hidden passage to the right.
You'll emerge in a small, enclosed area with a red pipe. Enter the pipe.
This pipe leads to the secret "Spider Level" (Macro Zone 3 - Secret). This level features unique enemies like large spiders and challenging platforming. Completing this level will return you to the Macro Zone map, but you'll have taken a different path to get there.

Recommended Power-up: Bunny Mario (Carrot) is highly recommended for the precision required to reach the hidden opening. The flutter jump provides invaluable control.

Enemies in Spider Level: Expect to encounter large spiders that drop from the ceiling and smaller, ground-crawling arachnids. A Fire Flower can be very effective here.

Pumpkin Zone

The spooky Pumpkin Zone has a well-concealed secret that can be a lifesaver, leading to a bonus game where you can earn extra lives or coins.

Pumpkin Zone 1: The Hidden Bonus Game Pipe

This secret exit doesn't lead to a new level, but rather to a valuable bonus game where you can earn extra lives or coins. It's an excellent way to prepare for the challenging levels ahead or to recover from a string of unfortunate deaths.

Progress through Pumpkin Zone 1 until you reach the area with the large, rotating platforms that resemble gears or cogs. These platforms are often populated by Boos or other spooky enemies.
You'll need to be Bunny Mario for this secret. If you're not, try to find a Carrot from a nearby Question Mark Block or bring one from your inventory. There are usually a few blocks in this zone that can provide power-ups.
As you traverse these rotating platforms, moving generally upwards and to the right, look for a small gap in the ceiling above one of the higher platforms. This gap is quite high up and easily overlooked, blending into the dark background.
Specifically, after navigating a few rotating platforms, you'll come to a point where the path continues to the right, but there's a ceiling above you. The gap is usually found above the second or third rotating platform in this sequence, on the right side of the screen.
Position yourself on the rotating platform directly below this gap. Perform a high jump and then flutter with Bunny Mario (hold the jump button) to ascend into the hidden area.
Once inside, you'll find a short, hidden passage leading to a green pipe. Enter it.
This pipe will transport you to a bonus game where you can gamble your coins for a chance at 1-Up Mushrooms or more coins. It's a great way to stock up on lives before tackling tougher challenges!

Bonus Game Mechanics: The bonus game typically involves choosing one of three hidden items. You pay a small coin fee (e.g., 30 coins) for a chance to win a 1-Up, a Super Mushroom, or more coins. It's a game of chance, but often worth the risk if you have plenty of coins.

Recommended Power-up: Bunny Mario (Carrot) is essential for reaching this high-up secret. Ensure you have one before attempting this secret.

Mario Zone

The Mario Zone, a whimsical world made of Mario-themed objects, also holds a secret that can lead to a bonus game, similar to the Pumpkin Zone.

Mario Zone 1: The Hidden Bonus Game Pipe

Progress through Mario Zone 1 until you reach the section with the large, red and white striped pipes that act as platforms. These pipes often have enemies like Goombas or Koopa Troopas patrolling them.
You'll need to be Bunny Mario for this secret. If you don't have a Carrot, try to find one from a nearby Question Mark Block or use one from your inventory.
As you navigate these pipe platforms, you'll eventually reach a point where you need to jump across a gap to a higher pipe. Look for a small, dark opening in the ceiling directly above this gap, or just after you land on the higher pipe. It's quite high and can be hard to spot against the busy background.
Position yourself carefully on the pipe platform directly below the ceiling gap. Perform a high jump and then flutter with Bunny Mario (hold the jump button) to ascend into the hidden area.
Once inside, you'll find a short, hidden passage leading to a green pipe. Enter it.
This pipe will transport you to a bonus game, identical to the one found in Pumpkin Zone 1, where you can gamble your coins for a chance at 1-Up Mushrooms or more coins.

Daidai Mountain

Daidai Mountain, a fiery volcanic region, has a unique secret exit that leads to a hidden level, offering a different challenge and path through the zone.

Daidai Mountain 2: The Secret Exit to the Underground Cave

This secret exit in Daidai Mountain 2 leads to a completely different level, Daidai Mountain 3 (Secret), which is an underground cave filled with unique enemies and obstacles. This offers an alternative route through the zone.

Play through Daidai Mountain 2 until you reach the section with the large, crumbling blocks that fall away after you step on them. This area is usually populated by Fire Snakes.
Navigate these crumbling blocks, moving generally downwards and to the right. You'll eventually come to a point where the path seems to lead to a dead end, with a wall of solid blocks to your right.
Instead of continuing downwards towards the standard exit, look for a small, inconspicuous opening in the ceiling above you, just before the solid wall. It's often partially obscured by the falling blocks.
To reach this opening, you'll need to be Bunny Mario. The flutter jump is crucial here, as the crumbling blocks make precise platforming difficult. If you don't have a Carrot, try to find one earlier in the level or use one from your inventory.
Position yourself carefully on a stable block (or quickly jump from a crumbling one) directly beneath the ceiling opening. Perform a high jump, then hold the jump button to flutter with Bunny Mario and ascend into the hidden passage.
Follow the short, hidden path to the right. You'll find a red pipe. Enter it.
This pipe leads to the secret level, Daidai Mountain 3 (Secret), which is an underground cave. This level features different enemies, such as large, bouncing lava bubbles and unique platforming challenges. Completing this level will return you to the Daidai Mountain map, but you will have taken the secret route.

Recommended Power-up: Bunny Mario (Carrot) is highly recommended for the precision and recovery it offers in this area of crumbling blocks. A Fire Flower can also be useful for dealing with the Fire Snakes.

Enemies in Secret Cave: Expect to encounter large lava bubbles that bounce around, as well as other subterranean creatures. Be mindful of falling into lava pits.

Space Zone

The Space Zone, accessible only via a secret exit, contains one of the six Golden Coins and also hides a bonus game opportunity.

Space Zone 1: The Hidden Bonus Game Pipe

Even in the vacuum of space, Mario can find a way to earn extra lives! Space Zone 1 offers a secret path to a bonus game, providing a crucial opportunity to stock up on 1-Up Mushrooms or coins in this challenging zone.

Progress through Space Zone 1 until you reach the section with the large, rotating asteroid platforms. These platforms move in a circular motion, and you'll often encounter Spiny enemies here.
You'll need to be Bunny Mario for this secret. If you don't have a Carrot, try to find one from a nearby Question Mark Block or use one from your inventory.
As you navigate these rotating asteroid platforms, moving generally upwards and to the right, look for a small, dark opening in the ceiling above one of the higher platforms. This gap is quite high up and can be difficult to spot against the dark cosmic background.
Specifically, after traversing a few rotating asteroids, you'll come to a point where the path continues to the right, but there's a ceiling above you. The gap is usually found above the second or third rotating asteroid in this sequence, on the right side of the screen.
Position yourself carefully on the rotating asteroid platform directly below the ceiling gap. Perform a high jump and then flutter with Bunny Mario (hold the jump button) to ascend into the hidden area.
Once inside, you'll find a short, hidden passage leading to a green pipe. Enter it.
This pipe will transport you to a bonus game, identical to the ones found in Pumpkin Zone 1 and Mario Zone 1, where you can gamble your coins for a chance at 1-Up Mushrooms or more coins.
