World 2-1 Walkthrough

Welcome to the Pagosu Kingdom, and your first foray into World 2-1. This world introduces a new aesthetic and a fresh set of challenges, with a greater emphasis on environmental hazards and more aggressive enemy types. Prepare for a sificant step up in difficulty from the Birabuto Kingdom.

You'll begin by navigating a series of platforms over water. The primary new enemy here is the UFO, which hovers and shoots projectiles. These can be difficult to dodge, especially if you're in Small Mario form. If you have the Super Ball Flower, this is an excellent opportunity to use it to take out the UFOs from a safe distance. If you're Super Mario, you can also take an extra hit, which can be crucial.

As you progress, you'll encounter more moving platforms and precarious jumps. The terrain becomes more uneven, with slopes and gaps that require precise control. Be wary of the Goombas and Pico Pico-kun that are often placed in inconvenient spots, forcing you to make difficult decisions about whether to attack or evade.

A key feature of this world is the introduction of bouncy mushrooms. These can be used to reach higher platforms, but they also require careful timing to control your trajectory. Misjudging a bounce can send you into an enemy or off the screen. Experiment with the jump button to control the height of your bounces.

The latter half of World 2-1 often involves navigating through tight spaces with enemies firing projectiles. The Flyer Guys make a return, and their swooping attacks can be particularly dangerous. If you're struggling, try to conserve any power-ups you have. The Shrink Flower can be a lifesaver in these sections, allowing you to slip through narrow passages and avoid many enemy attacks.

The end of World 2-1 culminates in a challenging platforming sequence before reaching the boss. Focus on steady progress and don't take unnecessary risks. The boss of this world is General Guzza, a large, armored enemy. He is vulnerable to jumps on his head. Like King Croaker, the number of hits required depends on your current form.
