Collectibles Checklist

Welcome, intrepid explorer! This comprehensive checklist will guide you through every collectible in Super Mario Odyssey, ensuring you don't miss a single Power Moon, Purple Coin, or Souvenir. While Power Moons are essential for progression, the other collectibles offer delightful cosmetic rewards and a true sense of completion. Use this section as your ultimate companion for 100%ing each kingdom!

Power Moons

Power Moons are the primary collectibles in Super Mario Odyssey, fueling the Odyssey airship and unlocking new kingdoms. Each kingdom has a set number of story-related Moons, followed by many more hidden throughout the environment. The number of Moons required to advance varies, but collecting all of them in a kingdom often unlocks bonus content or secrets.

  • Story Moons: These are obtained by completing main objectives and defeating bosses. They are generally unmissable during a standard playthrough.
  • Hidden Moons: Scattered across every nook and cranny of each kingdom. Look for glowing spots, interact with NPCs, complete mini-games, solve environmental puzzles, and revisit areas with new captures.
  • Moon Rock Moons: After defeating Bowser in the main story, Moon Rocks will appear in each kingdom. Ground-pounding these rocks will reveal many new Power Moons on your map, making them easier to track down.
  • Shop Moons: Every Crazy Cap shop sells Power Moons. You can purchase one Moon per kingdom with regular coins, and additional Moons (up to a certain limit) with regional coins.

Regional Coins (Purple Coins)

Each kingdom features a unique set of regional coins, often purple in color, that can be spent at the kingdom's Crazy Cap shop. These coins are crucial for purchasing kingdom-specific outfits for Mario and unique souvenirs for the Odyssey's interior. There's a fixed number of these coins in each kingdom, and collecting them all is a badge of true exploration.

  • Careful Exploration: Regional coins are often tucked away in less obvious spots. Check behind buildings, under ledges, inside pipes, and in hidden alcoves.
  • Cappy's Guidance: Sometimes, Cappy will react to nearby hidden coins with a subtle rumble or visual cue. Pay attention to these hints!
  • Capture Abilities: Many regional coins are only accessible by utilizing specific capture abilities unique to that kingdom. For example, capturing a Gushen in the Seaside Kingdom allows you to reach high-up coins with its water jet.
  • Map Markers: Once you've completed the main story, talking to Hint Toads or using the amiibo functionality can reveal the general location of remaining regional coins on your map.

Souvenirs

Souvenirs are decorative items that can be purchased from Crazy Cap shops using regional coins. These items are purely cosmetic and adorn the interior of your Odyssey airship, adding a personal touch to your journey. Each kingdom offers a unique set of souvenirs that reflect its culture and environment.

  • Kingdom-Specific Souvenirs: Every Crazy Cap shop sells a unique set of souvenirs. For example, the Cap Kingdom offers a "Top Hat" and "Bowler Hat" souvenir, while the Cascade Kingdom might have a "Dinosaur Skull."
  • Purchasing Strategy: Prioritize purchasing outfits if you're aiming for 100% costume collection, then use your remaining regional coins on souvenirs. You'll need to collect all regional coins in a kingdom to buy all its available souvenirs.
  • Viewing Your Collection: You can view your collected souvenirs by entering the Odyssey and interacting with the display cases inside.

Outfits

Outfits for Mario are another set of collectibles purchased from Crazy Cap shops. These outfits are purely cosmetic and don't offer any gameplay advantages, but they allow you to customize Mario's appearance to your heart's content. Some outfits are required to access certain areas or interact with specific NPCs, making them indirectly important for collecting all Power Moons.

  • Crazy Cap Shops: Both the regular coin and regional coin sections of Crazy Cap shops sell various outfits.
  • Kingdom Themes: Outfits often reflect the theme of the kingdom they are found in. For instance, the Sand Kingdom offers a "Poncho" and "Sombrero" set.
  • Special Outfits: Some outfits are unlocked after completing specific challenges, finding hidden areas, or by using amiibo. For example, the "Wedding Mario" outfit becomes available after completing the main story.
  • Required Outfits: Pay attention to NPCs who might mention needing a specific outfit to enter a building or pass a guard. These are often clues for obtaining Power Moons.
