Trophy Rush
Trophy Rush is an exciting and chaotic mode in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U where your primary goal is to smash as many falling blocks and enemies as possible within a time limit to earn trophies and custom parts. The more you destroy, the higher your score and the greater your rewards!
Understanding the Basics
In Trophy Rush, you're placed on a small, enclosed stage with an endless stream of blocks and occasional enemies falling from above. Your objective is to rack up points by destroying these objects. The mode ends when the timer runs out, or if you are KO'd three times.
- Blocks: These are your primary source of points and potential rewards. They come in various sizes and colors.
- Enemies: Occasionally, enemies like Reapers, Whomps, or even familiar Smash characters will appear. Defeating them yields higher points and often drops valuable items.
- Fever Time: Fill the Fever Gauge by continuously destroying objects. Once full, Fever Time activates, causing a massive influx of blocks and enemies, and significantly boosting your score multiplier.
- Danger Zone: As blocks accumulate, the stage can become cramped. If you get pushed off the screen or crushed, you lose a stock.
Optimal Character Choices
Choosing the right character can significantly impact your Trophy Rush success. Focus on characters with strong, wide-hitting attacks and good recovery.
- Heavy Hitters: Characters like Ganondorf, Bowser, and Ike excel at destroying multiple blocks with a single powerful smash attack. Their slower speed is less of a hindrance in this confined space.
- Multi-Hit Specialists: Characters with rapid, multi-hit attacks, such as Fox, Sheik, or Zero Suit Samus, can quickly clear out large groups of smaller blocks and rack up damage on tougher enemies.
- Projectiles: While less crucial than close-range power, characters with fast, spammable projectiles (e.g., Link's Boomerang, Samus's Charge Shot) can help clear blocks from a distance or initiate combos.
General Strategies for Success
Mastering Trophy Rush requires a blend of aggressive offense and careful positioning.
- Stay Mobile: Don't stand still! Constantly move and attack to clear blocks and avoid being overwhelmed. Use your character's mobility options (dashes, short hops) to navigate the falling debris.
- Prioritize Fever Time: Your main goal should be to activate Fever Time as often as possible. Focus on destroying blocks quickly to fill the gauge. During Fever Time, go all out to maximize your score.
- use Smash Attacks: Smash attacks are your best friend in Trophy Rush. Their power and range are ideal for clearing multiple blocks and damaging enemies. Charge them up whenever you have a brief opening.
- Edge Guarding (of sorts): If blocks or enemies are accumulating near the edges, try to knock them off the stage to prevent clutter and potential KOs.
- Item Management:
- Hammer: The Hammer is invaluable. Grab it immediately and unleash its powerful, block-clearing swings.
- Beam Sword/Star Rod: These weapons offer excellent range and damage, perfect for clearing out rows of blocks.
- Super Scope: Useful for clearing distant blocks or damaging tougher enemies from a safe distance.
- Explosive Items (Bob-omb, Smart Bomb): Use these strategically when the screen is heavily populated with blocks or a tough enemy appears. Throw them into the densest areas for maximum impact.
- Target Tougher Enemies: When enemies like Whomps or Reapers appear, focus your attacks on them. They yield significant points and often drop valuable items or trophies upon defeat.
- Avoid Being Crushed: Keep an eye on the top of the screen. If a large block is about to fall directly on you, move! Losing a stock prematurely can severely impact your final score.
Advanced Tactics
- Aerial Attacks: Don't neglect your aerial attacks. They are excellent for clearing blocks above you and maintaining pressure. Characters with strong aerials (e.g., Captain Falcon's Knee, Marth's Fair) can be very effective.
- Recovery Practice: Since you have limited stocks, practice your character's recovery. If you get knocked off the stage, a quick and efficient recovery can save you from a costly KO.
- Custom Moves: Experiment with custom moves that enhance your character's area-of-effect attacks or damage output. For instance, a custom move that increases the range of a smash attack could be highly beneficial.
- Equipment: Consider equipping items that boost your attack power or defense. "Attack +30" equipment can make a noticeable difference in how quickly you destroy blocks and enemies.
By following these strategies and practicing with your preferred characters, you'll be well on your way to mastering Trophy Rush and collecting a vast array of trophies and custom parts!
