Land Units
Land units form the backbone of most armies in Supreme Commander: Forged Alliance, offering a diverse range of tactical options for ground warfare. These units are essential for capturing territory, defending key locations, and engaging enemy forces directly. Their capabilities span from swift, cost-effective Tier 1 (T1) scouts and basic attack bots, designed for early-game skirmishes and reconnaissance, to the heavily armored and devastating Tier 3 (T3) tanks and mobile artillery. These advanced units are capable of overwhelming enemy defenses and providing crucial fire support.
Unit Roles and Specializations
Each of the three factions—Aeon, Cybran, and Seraphim—boasts a unique roster of land units, each with specialized roles and distinct strengths. For instance, some units excel in anti-air defense, providing vital protection against aerial assaults. Others are specifically designed to counter enemy shields, a critical aspect of breaking through fortified positions. Amphibious capabilities allow certain units to traverse water bodies, opening up unexpected attack vectors and flanking maneuvers. Understanding these specialized roles is paramount to constructing a balanced and effective ground force. For example, a well-placed Aeon T3 artillery unit, like the Megalith, can bombard enemy bases from extreme ranges, while Cybran T2 assault bots, such as the Shredder, are adept at close-quarters combat against infantry and light vehicles.
Strategic Considerations for Land Warfare
The effectiveness of land units is heavily influenced by terrain, unit composition, and tactical deployment. Fast T1 units are ideal for rapid expansion and harassment, while slower, more powerful T3 units are best used in coordinated assaults. Anti-shield units are crucial when facing factions that rely heavily on shield generators, such as the Seraphim's advanced defensive structures. Conversely, anti-air units are indispensable against the aerial threats posed by bomber wings and gunships. A common mistake is to field an army composed solely of one unit type; a balanced force that can address various threats is far more resilient. For example, supporting a push with T3 tanks with dedicated anti-air units prevents them from being vulnerable to enemy air power. The interplay between different unit types, such as using T2 mobile artillery to soften up defenses before a T3 tank assault, is key to achieving victory on the ground.
