Engaging the Skirmish AI in Supreme Commander: Forged Alliance requires a different strategic mindset than facing human opponents. AI opponents, while often predictable, can be relentless and exploit weaknesses if not managed carefully. A common AI strategy revolves around rapid expansion and mass production of lower-tier units early in the game. They will often prioritize securing resource nodes and building a substantial economy before committing to large-scale assaults.
To counter this, focus on early scouting to identify the AI's expansion routes and potential attack vectors. Prioritize building a strong defensive perimeter around your base and key resource areas. Units like the UEF's Assault Bot (ACU's initial unit) or the Aeon's Scout Bot can be effective for early harassment and defense. Consider building a few T1 artillery units to disrupt their massed infantry pushes from a safe distance.
As the game progresses, the AI will typically transition to T2 and then T3 units. They often favor straightforward, overwhelming assaults rather than complex flanking maneuvers. This makes area-of-effect (AoE) weapons and defensive structures highly effective. The UEF's Artillery Battery or the Cybran's Missile Launcher can decimate large groups of AI units. For aerial threats, ensure you have a mix of anti-air units and static defenses like the UEF's Flak Cannon.
