Tales of Arise features a vibrant cast of characters, each with unique combat styles, personalities, and roles within the party. Mastering each character's strengths and weaknesses is essential for overcoming the diverse challenges you'll face. This section provides an overview of the main playable characters and their primary functions in combat.

Your journey begins with Alphen, a swordsman driven by a quest for freedom, and Shionne, a sharp-tongued archer with powerful offensive capabilities. As you progress, you'll recruit Rinwell, a mage adept at countering enemy magic; Law, a brawler focused on raw power and defense; Kisara, a stoic shield-bearer who controls the battlefield; and Dohalim, a refined swordsman with a focus on precision and crowd control. Understanding their individual Artes and Boost Attacks will allow you to form synergistic party compositions.

Alphen (The Protagonist)

  • Role: Primary melee damage dealer.
  • Strengths: High attack power, versatile sword Artes, access to powerful flame-based attacks. His Boost Attack can stagger enemies, opening them up for combos.
  • Weaknesses: Can be vulnerable to ranged attacks if not managed carefully.
  • Key Artes: Rising Phoenix, Blazing Edge, Sword Rain Alpha.

Shionne (The Cursed Archer)

  • Role: Ranged damage dealer, support.
  • Strengths: Excellent at targeting weak points from afar, can inflict status ailments with her rifle. Her Boost Attack can interrupt enemy actions and deal significant damage.
  • Weaknesses: Lower HP and defense compared to melee characters.
  • Key Artes: Piercing Shot, Volley, Healing Circle (later).

Rinwell (The Magic Catcher)

  • Role: Magic attacker, enemy magic counter.
  • Strengths: Can absorb enemy Artes and unleash them back, making her invaluable against mages. Her Boost Attack can disrupt enemy spellcasting.
  • Weaknesses: Relatively fragile and relies on positioning.
  • Key Artes: Gale, Spark, Vortex.

Law (The Pugilist)

  • Role: Melee damage dealer, tank.
  • Strengths: High physical attack and defense, excels at breaking enemy armor. His Boost Attack can knock enemies down, setting up follow-up attacks.
  • Weaknesses: Slower attack speed compared to Alphen.
  • Key Artes: Iron Guts, Rising Dragon, Ground Smash.

Kisara (The Shield Maiden)

  • Strengths: Uses a large shield to block attacks and can launch enemies with her spear. Her Boost Attack can stun enemies and create openings.
