Getting Started & Core Mechanics

Embark on an epic journey in Tales of Arise, a visually stunning action RPG. This guide will equip you with the fundamental knowledge to navigate the world of Dahna, understand its core mechanics, and prepare for the challenges ahead. From mastering combat to managing your party, we'll cover everything you need to begin your adventure.

Tales of Arise thrusts you into a world oppressed by the technologically advanced planet of Rena. You'll play as Alphen, a mysterious amnesiac, and Shionne, a woman with a curse, as they fight for the freedom of Dahna. The game features a dynamic combat system, deep character progression, and a compelling narrative. Understanding the basics is key to enjoying the rich experience that awaits.

Movement and Exploration

Navigating the world of Tales of Arise is straightforward. You'll primarily use the left analog stick to move Alphen and the rest of your party. The right analog stick controls the camera, allowing you to survey your surroundings. Interacting with objects, NPCs, and points of interest is done with the 'A' button (or equivalent on your platform). Keep an eye out for glowing markers, which often indicate quest objectives or important items.

Combat Fundamentals

Combat in Tales of Arise is real-time and action-oriented. The 'X' button (or equivalent) is your primary attack button, chaining together basic attacks. The 'B' button (or equivalent) is used for dodging, a crucial defensive maneuver. Artes, special skills, are mapped to the face buttons, often combined with directional inputs for different effects. Learning to chain basic attacks into Artes and utilizing dodges effectively will be the foundation of your combat prowess.

Party Management

As you progress, you'll assemble a party of diverse characters, each with unique skills and Artes. Access the menu to manage your party's equipment, skills, and Artes. You can also set AI strategies for your companions, dictating their behavior in combat. Understanding each character's role and optimizing their loadouts will be vital for overcoming tougher encounters.

Saving Your Progress

Tales of Arise features an auto-save system that frequently records your progress. However, for critical moments or before challenging boss fights, it's always recommended to manually save. You can do this at any Campsite by interacting with the campfire. Campsites also offer opportunities to cook meals, which provide temporary buffs, and to rest and recover your party's HP and CP.
