Beyond simply mashing the attack button, understanding how to chain Artes together is crucial for maximizing damage and controlling the battlefield. Artes are broadly categorized into two types: Basic Artes and EX-Skills.
Basic Artes & Combo Chains
Basic Artes are learned as characters level up and can be assed to different buttons. The core of combo building lies in chaining these Basic Artes. For example, Lloyd can start with a quick attack, followed by a more powerful strike, and then link into an aerial combo. Experiment with different button combinations to discover new chains. Many characters have Artes that launch enemies into the air, allowing for extended aerial combos. Pay attention to the animation and timing; a well-timed follow-up Art can keep an enemy juggled and vulnerable.
EX-Skills: The Key to Advanced Combos
EX-Skills are where the true depth of the combat system lies. These passive abilities are equipped to characters and can significantly alter their Artes, grant new abilities, or provide passive buffs. Some EX-Skills allow you to link Basic Artes into powerful "Mystic Artes" or even combine Artes from different categories. For instance, equipping certain EX-Skills might allow Lloyd to chain a Sword Rain into a Rising Falcon, creating a devastating sequence. The key is to experiment with different EX-Skill combinations to find synergies that suit your playstyle and the specific challenges you face. Strategic Considerations
