Ossa Trail
Welcome to the Ossa Trail, a winding path that connects Luin to Izoold. This area is relatively straightforward but holds a few hidden treasures and opportunities for character development. Be prepared for a mix of standard encounters and a mini-boss battle.
Path to the First Save Point
Upon entering the Ossa Trail from Luin, you'll find yourself on a linear path. Keep an eye out for enemies like the Zombie, Ghost, and Skeleton. These undead foes are weak to Light-elemental attacks, so if you have Colette in your party, her Holy Lance or Ray will be particularly effective. Remember to use your Unison Attacks to maximize damage and gain bonus experience.
- Follow the main path, heading generally east.
- You'll soon come across a chest containing a Life Bottle. This is a crucial item for reviving fallen allies, so always keep a few on hand.
- Continue along the trail. You'll encounter a small fork; the northern path leads to a dead end with another chest holding a Panacea Bottle. This item cures all status effects, which can be very useful against enemies that inflict poison or paralysis.
- Return to the main path and proceed. You'll soon reach an open area with a Save Point. This is an excellent opportunity to heal your party, save your progress, and perhaps cook a meal to boost your stats or recover HP/TP.
The Ossa Trail Caves
Just past the first save point, you'll enter a small cave system. The layout here is still quite linear, but it introduces a few more enemy types and a puzzle element.
- Inside the cave, you'll encounter Giant Bees and Stone Golems. Giant Bees are fast but have low HP, while Stone Golems are slow but have high defense. Adjust your tactics accordingly.
- Navigate through the cave. You'll notice some large boulders blocking certain paths. To move these, you'll need the Sorcerer's Ring equipped to Lloyd. Fire a shot at the boulder to clear the way.
- One of these cleared paths leads to a chest containing a Stun Bracelet. This accessory can be equipped to reduce the chance of being stunned in battle.
- Continue through the cave, using the Sorcerer's Ring to clear any remaining obstacles. You'll eventually exit the cave system.
Mini-Boss: Giant Worm
After exiting the caves, you'll find yourself in another outdoor section of the Ossa Trail. As you progress, you'll trigger a mini-boss encounter.
- Enemy: Giant Worm
- Strategy: The Giant Worm is a large, slow enemy with a decent amount of HP. It primarily uses physical attacks and can inflict poison.
- Party Setup: Ensure you have a healer (Raine) and a strong physical attacker (Lloyd) in your party. Colette's Light-elemental attacks are effective here.
- Tactics:
- Focus your attacks on the Giant Worm. Its attacks are telegraphed, so try to guard or evade when it prepares a strike.
- Have Raine cast First Aid or Nurse as needed to keep your party's HP up.
- If anyone gets poisoned, use a Panacea Bottle or Raine's Purify spell to cure it.
- use Unison Attacks whenever possible to deal significant damage.
- Consider equipping the Stun Bracelet on a character who frequently gets hit, like Lloyd, to mitigate the stun effect.
- Reward: After defeating the Giant Worm, you'll receive experience, Gald, and potentially a Poison Charm or Life Bottle.
Final Stretch to Izoold
With the Giant Worm defeated, the rest of the Ossa Trail is a clear shot to your next destination.
- Continue along the path. You'll find one last chest along the way containing a Mumei for Lloyd. This is a decent weapon upgrade at this point in the game.
- Shortly after, you'll reach the exit leading to the world map. From here, head south to reach the coastal town of Izoold.
Congratulations! You've successfully navigated the Ossa Trail. Take a moment to heal and prepare in Izoold before continuing your journey.
