Search Points & Discovery
Beyond the main quest, the world of Auldrant is brimming with hidden treasures and valuable resources. "Search Points" are specific, often subtle, locations on the world map and within dungeons that, when interacted with, yield items, Gald, or even rare equipment. Actively seeking these out can significantly bolster your party's strength and provide useful consumables throughout your journey.
Discovery, on the other hand, refers to finding unique landmarks, vistas, or points of interest that contribute to your overall game completion and often unlock new skits or character dialogue. While they don't always provide immediate tangible rewards, they enrich the game's lore and offer a deeper appreciation for the world design.
General Search Point Strategies
- Visual Cues: Keep an eye out for sparkling spots, unusual rock formations, or distinct patches of flora on the world map. In dungeons, these might be glints of light, oddly placed barrels, or cracks in walls.
- Area of Effect: Search Points often have a small activation radius. If you suspect one is nearby, try walking slowly around the area and pressing the action button (usually 'X' on PlayStation 2) repeatedly.
- Check Corners and Edges: Many Search Points are tucked away in less obvious locations, such as behind structures, at the very edge of a map segment, or in dead-end paths.
- Revisit Areas: Some Search Points, particularly on the world map, can respawn their contents after a certain amount of in-game time or after you've progressed further in the story. It's always worth a quick check if you're passing through an old area.
- Use the World Map: While the world map doesn't explicitly mark Search Points, paying attention to its details can sometimes hint at areas worth exploring more closely.
Notable Early Game Search Points & Discoveries
Here's a breakdown of some key Search Points and Discoveries you can find in the early stages of your adventure:
Engeve
- Discovery: Engeve's Waterwheel: Located just outside the main village entrance, to the left. Interact with the large waterwheel for a skit and a small amount of Gald.
- Search Point: Engeve's Fields: In the fields surrounding Engeve, look for shimmering spots near the crops. These often yield Apple Gels, Orange Gels, or small amounts of Gald.
Cheagle Woods
- Search Point: Forest Floor: Throughout the winding paths of Cheagle Woods, especially in clearings, look for faint sparkles. Common finds include Life Bottles, Panacea Bottles, and occasionally a low-tier accessory like a Leather Bracelet.
- Discovery: Cheagle Elder's Tree: After meeting the Cheagle Elder, examine the base of his massive tree. This often triggers a unique dialogue and a small Gald reward.
Tartarus (First Visit)
- Search Point: Deck Cranes: On the upper deck of the Tartarus, near the large cranes, investigate the base of the machinery. You can often find a Specific or a Miracle Gel here.
- Search Point: Engine Room Crates: In the engine room, examine the stacks of crates and barrels. These can hide Apple Gels or even a rare Verbena.
Fubras River
- Search Point: Riverbank Shallows: As you traverse the Fubras River area, especially where the water is shallowest or near small rock formations, look for glints. These often contain Lemon Gels or Melange Gels, which are very useful early on.
- Discovery: Fubras River Falls: At the highest point of the Fubras River, where the water cascades down, interact with the edge of the cliff for a scenic view and a small Gald bonus.
Kaitzur Naval Port
- Search Point: Dockside Barrels: Near the moored ships and various crates on the docks, search diligently. You might uncover a Holy Bottle or a Dark Bottle.
- Discovery: Kaitzur Lighthouse: On the far end of the port, near the lighthouse structure, interact with its base for a unique perspective and some Gald.
Remember, patience and thoroughness are key to maximizing your gains from Search Points and uncovering all the world's secrets!
