Skills & Artes
In Tales of Vesperia, mastering your characters' Skills and Artes is paramount to success in combat. Artes are the special attacks and spells that form the core of your offensive and defensive capabilities, while Skills are passive abilities that can be learned and equipped to further customize your characters' strengths and weaknesses. This section will guide you through understanding and utilizing these crucial combat elements.
Each character in Vesperia possesses a unique set of Artes, ranging from physical attacks and elemental spells to healing and support abilities. These Artes are learned by leveling up and by equipping specific weapons. Skills, on the other hand, are learned by accumulating battle points (BP) while using weapons that possess them. Once learned, Skills can be equipped using Skill Points (SP), allowing you to fine-tune your characters' combat effectiveness. This section will detail how to acquire and equip Artes and Skills, offering strategies for optimizing your party's combat potential.
Artes System
Artes are the bread and butter of combat in Tales of Vesperia. They are divided into two main categories: Physical Artes and Arcane Artes. Physical Artes are typically melee-based attacks, while Arcane Artes encompass magic spells, healing abilities, and status-inflicting techniques.
- Learning Artes: Most Artes are learned by leveling up a character. Some advanced Artes may require specific conditions to be met, such as mastering a prerequisite Arte or equipping a particular weapon.
- Arte Usage: Artes consume varying amounts of TP (Technical Points) to use. Managing your TP pool is crucial for sustained combat.
- Combos: Artes can be chained together to form devastating combos. Experimenting with different Arte combinations is key to maximizing damage output.
Skills System
Skills are passive abilities that provide various benefits, such as increased stats, altered combat mechanics, or new abilities. They are learned from weapons and then equipped using SP.
- Learning Skills: Each weapon has a set of Skills associated with it. By using a weapon, you accumulate BP towards learning its Skills. Once a Skill is learned, it becomes available for all characters to equip, provided they have enough SP.
- Equipping Skills: Characters have a limited amount of SP, which dictates how many and which Skills they can equip. Prioritizing Skills that complement a character's role and your playstyle is essential.
- Skill Trees: Some Skills are interconnected, forming 'Skill Trees'. Mastering certain Skills can unlock more powerful ones.
