Zaphias: Royal Quarter & Prison
Following the dramatic events in the Lower Quarter, Yuri finds himself in the opulent yet restrictive confines of Zaphias's Royal Quarter. This section will guide you through your initial exploration, your pivotal encounter with Flynn, and the subsequent escape from the castle prison alongside a new, crucial ally.
Royal Quarter Exploration & Castle Entry
Upon entering the Royal Quarter, your immediate objective is to reach the castle. The path is largely linear, but take a moment to appreciate the grand architecture and the bustling atmosphere of the capital's elite district. There are no enemies here, but several NPCs offer snippets of dialogue that flesh out the world's lore.
- Path: From the entrance, proceed straight through the main thoroughfare. The castle entrance is directly ahead.
- NPCs of Note: While not critical for progression, speaking to the various citizens can provide context on the current political climate and the state of the blastia.
As you approach the castle gates, a cutscene will trigger, introducing you to Flynn Scifo, Yuri's childhood friend and a Knight of the Imperial Guard. This encounter highlights their diverging paths and sets the stage for future conflicts and alliances. After the conversation, you will automatically enter the castle.
Castle Investigation & Prison Incarceration
Inside the castle, your investigation into the blastia thief continues. Follow Flynn's lead as he guides you through the initial castle corridors. This segment is primarily narrative-driven, with no combat or complex puzzles.
- Objective: Follow Flynn. He will lead you to the area where the blastia was stolen.
- Event: A subsequent cutscene will lead to Yuri's arrest and incarceration in the castle prison. This is a scripted event and unavoidable.
Castle Prison: Escape & Alliance
Now imprisoned, your goal shifts to escaping. This section introduces basic puzzle-solving elements and a few combat encounters, serving as a tutorial for some of the game's mechanics. You will also meet Estelle, a key character who will join your party.
Prison Layout & Initial Steps
You begin in a cell. Your first task is to find a way out. Estelle is in an adjacent cell.
- Cell Escape:
- Examine the cell door. It's locked.
- Look for a loose brick or a hidden mechanism within your cell. Often, interacting with the back wall or a specific corner will reveal a hidden switch or a weak point.
- Hint: Check the back-right corner of Yuri's cell. A prompt to investigate should appear.
- Meeting Estelle:
- Once out of your cell, head to the adjacent cell where Estelle is imprisoned.
- A cutscene will trigger, and she will join your party. This is your first opportunity to control multiple characters in combat.
Navigating the Prison & Puzzle Elements
The prison features a few simple environmental puzzles designed to teach you about interacting with the environment to progress. These are generally straightforward and involve finding switches or manipulating objects.
- Basic Puzzle Example: One common prison puzzle involves a locked door that requires a guard's key or a hidden switch to open.
- Location: After freeing Estelle, proceed down the corridor. You'll encounter a locked gate.
- Solution: Look for a guard's post or a small alcove nearby. There will often be a lever or a pressure plate on the wall or floor that controls the gate. For instance, a hidden switch near the guard's post (often subtly blended into the wall texture) is a classic example. Interact with it to open the path.
- Action: Approach the guard's desk/post. Examine the wall behind or next to it thoroughly. A prompt will appear to activate the switch.
- Environmental Interaction: Keep an eye out for glowing objects, sparkling points on the ground, or any interactive prompts (e.g., "Examine," "Push," "Pull"). These often indicate a puzzle element or a hidden item.
Combat Encounters in the Prison
As you navigate the prison, you'll encounter Imperial Knights. These are relatively weak enemies, serving as an introduction to the game's combat system with multiple party members.
- Enemy Type: Imperial Knight (Sword, Shield)
- Strategy:
- Focus attacks on one enemy at a time to defeat them quickly.
- Utilize Yuri's basic attack combos and Artes (e.g., Azure Edge for ranged damage, Dragon Swarm for close-quarters).
- Estelle, as a healer, will automatically cast healing spells (e.g., First Aid) when party members take damage. You can also manually command her to heal or use offensive Artes.
- Block incoming attacks by holding the guard button.
- Recommended Loadout: At this stage, your equipment is basic. Ensure Yuri has the default Long Sword and Leather Armor. Estelle will have her starting equipment.
Finding the Exit
Continue to explore the prison corridors, solving the simple puzzles and defeating the Imperial Knights. Your ultimate goal is to find the main exit.
- Key Item Acquisition: You may find a key from a defeated guard or in a chest. This key will be necessary for a specific locked door.
- Final Gate: The path will eventually lead you to a larger, more heavily guarded gate.
- Escape: After opening the final gate, a cutscene will trigger, marking your escape from the prison and the beginning of your journey outside Zaphias.
Missables & Important Notes
- No Major Missables: The prison section is quite linear, and there are no easily missable critical items or events that would permanently hinder your progress.
- Learning Combat: Use the prison encounters to familiarize yourself with the combat system, especially controlling multiple characters and issuing commands to Estelle.
- Exploration: While the puzzles are simple, take a moment to explore every accessible cell and corner. Sometimes, small amounts of Gald (currency) or basic items like Apple Gels can be found in barrels or crates.
Successfully navigating the Royal Quarter and escaping the prison marks the end of the game's initial tutorial phase and the true beginning of Yuri and Estelle's adventure.
