Material Farming Locations
Welcome, aspiring crafters and item enthusiasts! This section is dedicated to helping you efficiently gather the various materials needed for equipment upgrades, item creation, and shop development in Tales of Xillia. While many materials can be acquired through enemy drops, treasure chests, or quest rewards, targeted farming can significantly speed up your progress. Remember to utilize the Shop Development system to increase the chances of rare drops and expand available items.
Early Game Materials (Chapter 1-3)
During the initial chapters, your focus will be on basic monster parts and common flora. These are crucial for early equipment upgrades and filling out your item list.
- Soft Tail:
- Location: Rusalle Highroad, Sapstrath Deepwood.
- Enemies: Dire Fangs, various small canine-like enemies.
- Strategy: These enemies are plentiful in both areas. Focus on linking with characters who have arte attacks that hit multiple targets to clear groups quickly.
- Small Bec de Corbin:
- Location: Sapstrath Highroad, Sapstrath Deepwood.
- Enemies: Axe Beaks.
- Strategy: Axe Beaks are common avian enemies. Use aerial combos or artes that launch enemies to keep them juggled and maximize damage.
- Green Root:
- Location: Sapstrath Deepwood, Arklund Quag.
- Method: Found as sparkling collection points on the ground.
- Strategy: Simply walk over the sparkling spots. These respawn after a short time or upon re-entering the area.
Mid-Game Materials (Chapter 4-7)
As you progress, the demand for more specialized materials will increase. These often come from stronger enemies or specific environmental collection points.
- Sharp Claw:
- Location: Galia Trail, Mon Highlands.
- Enemies: Wild Boars, various beast-type enemies.
- Strategy: Wild Boars are sturdy. Break their guard with linked artes and focus on elemental weaknesses if available.
- Mystic Cloth:
- Location: Culmar Trail, Old Vicalle Mine.
- Enemies: Ghost, Phantom.
- Strategy: These ethereal enemies are often resistant to physical attacks. Utilize magic-users like Milla or Rowen to exploit their weaknesses. Consider equipping accessories that boost magic attack.
- Iron Ore:
- Location: Old Vicalle Mine, Xagut Floodmeadow.
- Method: Found as sparkling collection points, particularly in cave-like or rocky areas.
- Strategy: Explore thoroughly. The Old Vicalle Mine is a prime location for mining materials.
Late Game & End-Game Materials (Chapter 8 onwards & Post-Game)
These materials are typically required for the best equipment and ultimate weapon upgrades. Expect to face tougher foes and explore more dangerous regions.
- Quality Shell:
- Location: Fezebel Marsh, Tatalian Abyss.
- Enemies: Giant Crabs, Shell Dragons.
- Strategy: These enemies often have high physical defense. Use artes that ignore defense or focus on their elemental weaknesses. Breaking their shell can also yield better drops.
- Rare Metal:
- Location: Xailen Woods Temple (Post-Game), Labari Hollow.
- Enemies: Golems, various mechanical enemies.
- Method: Rare sparkling collection points in high-level dungeons.
- Strategy: Golems are highly resistant to physical damage. Exploit their elemental weaknesses (often lightning or earth) and use magic artes. For collection points, ensure your Item Shop is at a high level to increase the chances of rarer materials.
- Monster Fluid:
- Location: Fort Gandala (Post-Game), Ultimate Colosseum.
- Enemies: Greater Demon, various high-level monster types.
- Strategy: This is a rare drop from powerful monsters. Consider using food items that boost item drop rates (e.g., Mabo Curry) and equip accessories like the Hunter's Monocle to improve your chances. Repeatedly challenging the Ultimate Colosseum's higher ranks is an excellent way to farm this.
General Farming Tips:
- Shop Development: Prioritize leveling up your Item Shop and Weapon Shop to unlock better items and increase the quality/quantity of drops. A higher shop level directly impacts the rarity of materials you can find.
- Food Buffs: Certain food items, like Mabo Curry or Seafood Salad, can increase item drop rates or the chance of finding rare materials. Always have a good stock before a farming session.
- Accessories: The Hunter's Monocle is invaluable for farming, as it boosts item drop rates. Equip it on a character you're not actively controlling in battle to maximize its effect without sacrificing combat prowess.
- Linked Artes: Using Linked Artes can sometimes trigger bonus drops or increase the chances of rare items, especially when finishing off enemies with a powerful combo.
- Area Reset: Leaving an area and re-entering it will often respawn enemies and collection points, allowing for continuous farming without having to travel too far.
- Save Points: Utilize nearby save points as a base of operations for farming. This allows you to quickly save your progress and restock if needed.
