Skits

Skits are short, optional conversations between your party members that provide additional character development, lore, and often comedic relief. They are a staple of the Tales of series and offer valuable insight into the world of Zestiria and the relationships within your group. Actively engaging with skits enriches your overall gameplay experience and can sometimes even hint at hidden events or strategies.

Activating Skits

Most skits are triggered automatically when certain conditions are met, such as:

  • Entering a new area or town.
  • Progressing the main story.
  • Completing a side quest.
  • Defeating a specific enemy or boss.
  • Collecting a certain item.
  • Resting at an inn.
  • Reaching a specific character level or affinity.

When a skit is available, a small portrait icon will appear in the bottom left corner of your screen. Press the designated button (typically the Select/Touchpad button on PlayStation controllers) to initiate the conversation. You can skip skits by pressing the same button again, but it's highly recommended to watch them for the full narrative experience.

Types of Skits

Skits in Tales of Zestiria are categorized, making it easier to track their purpose and origin. Understanding these categories can help you identify which skits you might be missing or which ones are crucial for specific content.

Main Skits

These skits are directly tied to the primary storyline and often occur after significant plot points or before major boss battles. They provide crucial context, character reactions to events, and advance the narrative. Missing these won't prevent story progression, but you'll lose out on important character moments.

  • Strategy: Always watch Main Skits as they appear. They often deepen your understanding of the current situation and character motivations.

Earthen Historia Skits

These unique skits are triggered by interacting with the various Earthen Historia monuments scattered across Glenwood. Each monument reveals a piece of ancient history or lore, and the accompanying skit often features the party discussing its implications. Collecting all Earthen Historia entries is a completionist goal and these skits are integral to that.

  • Location Tip: Keep an eye out for glowing blue pillars in the environment. These indicate an Earthen Historia monument. Interact with them to trigger the related skit and add to your library.
  • Item Connection: Some Earthen Historia skits might only trigger after you've acquired specific Key Items related to ancient history.

Sub Skits

Sub Skits are generally optional and focus on character interactions, world-building, and comedic situations not directly tied to the main plot. They often trigger in specific locations or after certain conditions are met, such as:

  • Entering a specific town for the first time.
  • Discovering a new landmark.
  • Using a particular item in battle or in the field.
  • Having certain party members in your active group.
  • Exploration Encouragement: To find most Sub Skits, thoroughly explore every nook and cranny of each area, revisit towns, and experiment with different party compositions.
  • Inn Resting: Resting at inns in different towns can sometimes trigger unique Sub Skits, so make it a habit to rest periodically.

System Skits

These skits serve as tutorials or explanations for game mechanics, features, and new systems as they are introduced. They are often triggered the first time you encounter a new element, such as:

  • Learning about Armatization.
  • Understanding the Fusion system.
  • Explaining Lord of the Land boons.
  • Information Source: Pay close attention to System Skits, especially early in the game, as they provide vital information for mastering Zestiria's unique mechanics.

Etc. Skits

This category acts as a catch-all for skits that don't fit neatly into the other classifications. They can range from character-specific musings to reactions to minor events or environmental observations. These often add flavor and depth to the characters and the world.

  • General Play: These skits usually trigger naturally through general gameplay and exploration. There isn't a specific strategy to hunt them down beyond thorough exploration.

DLC Skits

If you own any downloadable content (DLC) for Tales of Zestiria, such as the Alisha's Story epilogue or costume packs, you may unlock additional skits. These skits often feature the DLC characters or discuss the new costumes and scenarios.

  • DLC Specific: These skits will only appear if the relevant DLC is installed and active. They typically trigger during or after the associated DLC content.

Skit Viewing and Replaying

All viewed skits are recorded in the in-game Library, accessible from the main menu. This allows you to re-watch any skit you've encountered at your leisure. This is particularly useful for:

  • Reliving favorite character moments.
  • Reviewing lore or system explanations.
  • Checking if you've missed any skits (though the Library only shows those you've *seen*).

While there isn't a direct in-game counter for total skits, aiming to trigger as many as possible by exploring thoroughly and engaging with all game systems will ensure you experience the vast majority of these delightful conversations.
