Power-Ups & Items
Mastering the use of power-ups and understanding item placement is crucial for surviving the Foot Clan's relentless onslaught in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder's Revenge. This section will detail every consumable and collectible, offering strategies for optimal use and pinpointing common locations.
Health Restoration
Keeping your Turtle in fighting shape is paramount. Health items are often found by smashing environmental objects or defeating specific enemies.
- Pizza Slice: The most common health pickup, restoring a small portion of your health bar. Always prioritize grabbing these, especially if you're low. They frequently appear after destroying crates, trash cans, or defeating larger Foot Soldiers.
- Whole Pizza: A rare and highly coveted item that fully restores your health. These are usually strategically placed before or during boss encounters, or in areas with particularly challenging enemy waves.
- Strategy: If playing co-op, communicate with your team. You with the lowest health should ideally take the Whole Pizza. If everyone is healthy, consider saving it for a moment when a teammate is critically low or for an upcoming tough fight. Don't grab it if your health is nearly full unless you absolutely need the space for another item.
- Location Example: You'll often find a Whole Pizza just before the first encounter with Bebop in Episode 1: Jaw-Breaking News!, usually hidden in a destructible newsstand. Another common spot is mid-way through Episode 4: Rumble in the Zoo, often behind a breakable animal enclosure.
- Sushi: A less common but still valuable health item, restoring a moderate amount of health, more than a Pizza Slice but less than a Whole Pizza. Sushi often appears in more "upscale" environments or as drops from specific, tougher enemies.
- Location Example: Look for Sushi in Episode 3: Crisis on the Half Shell, often found by smashing the decorative vases in the museum.
Special Attack & Super Meter Items
Your Super Meter fuels powerful special attacks and the devastating Super Attack. These items help you charge it faster.
- Energy Drink Can: This item instantly fills a portion of your Super Meter, allowing for more frequent use of special moves or a quicker charge to your Super Attack.
- Strategy: Use these strategically. If you're about to face a mini-boss or a large group of enemies, grabbing an Energy Drink beforehand can give you the edge. Don't waste it if your Super Meter is already nearly full.
- Location Example: Energy Drink Cans are often found in breakable vending machines or as drops from elite Foot Soldiers. In Episode 2: Big Apple, 3 PM, check the destructible phone booths and newsstands for these.
- Donatello's Pizza Dispenser (Special): While not a traditional pick-up, Donatello's unique ability to deploy a Pizza Dispenser is a game-changer in co-op. This dispenser slowly generates Pizza Slices for a limited time.
- Strategy: Donatello deploy this in safe areas during intense fights or just before a boss to provide continuous healing for the team. Coordinate with your teammates to ensure they can access the dispensed slices.
- Activation: Requires a full Super Meter.
Score & Point Items
While not directly impacting gameplay, collecting these items contributes to your overall score, which is important for unlocking character upgrades and achieving high ranks.
- Gems/Coins: Small, sparkling collectibles that grant a minor score boost. They are ubiquitous and often drop from defeated enemies or destructible objects.
- Large Gems/Gold Bars: More valuable score items, offering a significant point increase. These are usually hidden in less obvious destructible objects or as rewards for clearing specific enemy waves.
- Strategy: Always smash every destructible object you encounter! Many of these valuable score items are hidden within. Don't rush past areas without thoroughly exploring for hidden caches.
- Location Example: In Episode 5: King of the Monster, look for hidden large gems within the crates and barrels scattered throughout the city streets.
- Collectibles (Cameos/Secrets): These are unique items that unlock character bios, concept art, or other lore entries. They are often well-hidden and require careful exploration.
- Strategy: Keep an eye out for suspicious-looking objects or areas that seem out of place. Some collectibles require specific actions, like hitting a certain object multiple times or interacting with a background element.
- Location Example: In Episode 1: Jaw-Breaking News!, there's a hidden collectible in the first section of the level. Look for a specific fire hydrant that can be interacted with to reveal a secret. In Episode 6: Mall Meltdown, a collectible is often found by smashing a particular display case in the electronics store.
Environmental Hazards & Interactables
While not "items" in the traditional sense, understanding how to use and avoid environmental elements is key to survival and scoring.
- Exploding Barrels/Gas Tanks: These red or yellow barrels can be picked up and thrown at enemies for massive area-of-effect damage. Be careful, as they can also damage you and your teammates.
- Strategy: Use these to clear large groups of weaker enemies or to deal significant damage to mini-bosses. Throw them from a safe distance.
- Location: Common in industrial areas, construction sites, and alleyways.
- Manholes: Some manholes can be opened to reveal hidden items or even secret paths. Others are simply decorative.
- Strategy: Always try interacting with manholes, especially if you're looking for hidden collectibles or health items.
- Vehicles/Objects: Many background elements like cars, newsstands, and vending machines can be destroyed to reveal hidden items.
