Understanding how garbage interacts with your line clears is vital for survival. When you clear lines, you 'block' incoming garbage. If you clear more lines than the garbage currently in your meter, you will send the excess as counter-garbage to your opponents. For example, if you have 3 lines of garbage incoming and you clear 4 lines (a Tetris), you will block the 3 incoming lines and send 1 line of garbage to your opponents. If you clear 2 lines, you will block 2 lines, and 1 line of garbage will still land on your field. This mechanic is crucial for defensive play. Always aim to clear as many lines as possible when you have incoming garbage to minimize its impact and potentially counter-attack. The 'All Clear' (clearing your entire playfield) is the most powerful counter, sending 10 lines of garbage and completely resetting your board. While rare, always be aware of 'All Clear' opportunities. Furthermore, if you clear lines while garbage is still in your meter, the garbage will land at the bottom of your field, but any lines you cleared will be removed first. This means you can clear lines to make space for incoming garbage, then clear the garbage itself. Mastering this defensive dance is key to surviving intense attacks.
