This ensures you have it available when your board is set up for a lucrative Tetris, which sends significant garbage to opponents.
  • Preventing Stalling: Sometimes you'll receive a string of unfavorable Tetriminos that don't fit well into your current board state, potentially leading to an unmanageable stack. If you have a piece in your queue that would cause immediate problems, consider holding it and seeing what the next piece brings. This can buy you precious time to clear lines and create space.
  • Setting Up T-Spins: For advanced players, the Hold Queue is indispensable for setting up T-Spin Doubles or Triples. If you're building a T-Spin setup and receive a T-Tetrimino, holding it until your well is perfectly formed is a key strategy.   • Maintaining a Flat Board: If your board is relatively flat and you can place the current piece without creating significant holes or an uneven stack, it's often better to play it and keep your options open for the next pieces.
  • No Immediate Need for Held Piece: If you have a piece in hold, but the current falling piece is perfectly usable and doesn't hinder your strategy, there's no need to swap. Save your hold for a more critical moment.

Holding Scenarios:

  • The "Perfect Fit" Piece: As mentioned, saving an I-Tetrimino for a Tetris or a T-Tetrimino for a T-Spin is paramount. These are your high-value pieces.
  • Unfavorable Queue: If your next 2-3 pieces in the queue (visible on the right) are all awkward for your current board, holding your current piece might give you a better option from the queue.
