A 'garbage spike' occurs when multiple players send a large amount of garbage to you simultaneously, or a single high-Badge player sends a massive attack. This can quickly fill your garbage meter and threaten to top you out. Surviving a garbage spike requires quick thinking and efficient line clearing. The moment you see your garbage meter filling rapidly, your priority shifts entirely to defense. Immediately look for opportunities to clear lines, especially Tetris clears, as they clear four lines and send a good amount of counter-garbage. If you have an 'I' Tetrimino on hold, use it! If not, focus on clearing any lines you can, even single or double clears, to reduce the incoming garbage. Avoid building high or creating deep wells during a spike, as this will limit your options. If your stack gets very high, focus on clearing the lowest possible lines to bring your field down. Sometimes, a well-timed T-Spin Double can also clear two lines and send a decent counter-attack. The goal is to clear lines faster than the garbage can land, buying yourself time to recover. Don't panic; stay calm and focus on the next piece.
