Single Player Modes
Tetris Effect: Connected offers a rich tapestry of single-player experiences, blending classic Tetris gameplay with stunning visuals and immersive soundscapes. Whether you're looking for a journey of discovery or a pure challenge, these modes have something for every player.
Journey Mode
Journey Mode is the heart of the Tetris Effect experience, guiding you through a series of themed stages, each with unique music, visual effects, and gameplay mechanics. This mode is designed to be a meditative and evolving experience, gradually increasing in difficulty as you progress.
- Progression: You'll move through various "Areas," each containing multiple stages. Completing a stage unlocks the next. The game saves your progress after each completed stage.
- Difficulty Settings: Before starting, you can choose from three difficulty levels:
- Beginner: Slower piece speeds, more forgiving clear conditions. Ideal for new players or those wanting a relaxed experience.
- Normal: A balanced challenge, suitable for most players.
- Expert: Significantly faster piece speeds and more demanding clear conditions. For seasoned Tetris veterans seeking a true test of skill.
- The Zone Mechanic: A core feature of Journey Mode is the "Zone" ability. As you clear lines, a Zone Meter fills. Once full, you can activate Zone by pressing the designated button (e.g., L1/LB on controllers, or a customizable key on PC).
- Activating Zone: Time slows down, and falling Tetriminos pause. You can then strategically place pieces to clear multiple lines simultaneously, including the powerful "Zone Tetris" (clearing 8+ lines at once) or even a "Perfect Clear" (clearing the entire board).
- Benefits of Zone: Clearing lines in Zone Mode grants significantly more points and can help you recover from difficult situations by clearing large sections of your stack. It's crucial for achieving high scores and surviving later, faster stages.
- Strategy Tips:
- Embrace the Flow: Don't just play Tetris; immerse yourself in the audio-visual experience. The game is designed to sync with your actions, making successful clears feel incredibly satisfying.
- Master the Zone: Learn when to activate Zone. It's often best used when your stack is getting high, or when you have several "I" Tetriminos lined up for a massive clear. Don't waste it on single or double line clears unless absolutely necessary.
- T-Spins: While not strictly necessary on lower difficulties, learning T-Spins (rotating a T-shaped Tetrimino into a tight space for extra points) can significantly boost your score and clear efficiency, especially on Expert.
- Hold Queue: Always use the Hold Queue (usually the L2/LT button or a customizable key) to save a crucial piece for later, especially the "I" Tetrimino for Tetris clears.

Player Level and Avatar
As you play any single-player mode, you'll earn experience points (XP). Accumulating XP increases your Player Level. Higher Player Levels unlock new avatars, which are cosmetic icons displayed next to your name. While purely aesthetic, they offer a sense of progression and personalization.
- Earning XP: XP is awarded for completing stages, achieving high scores, clearing lines, and performing special actions like T-Spins and Zone clears.
- Customizing Avatar: From the main menu, navigate to your profile or settings to change your active avatar.
