The Zone Mechanic is the signature innovation of Tetris Effect: Connected, acting as a powerful 'ability' that can turn the tide of any game. It allows you to temporarily stop time, giving you a unique advantage.

How Zone Works
- Filling the Meter: The Zone Meter, located on the left side of the playfield, fills as you clear lines. Clearing multiple lines at once (Doubles, Triples, Tetrises) fills it faster.
- Activating Zone: Once the meter is full, press the 'Zone' button (Y/Triangle on most controllers) to activate it.
- Time Stop: When Zone is active, time stops, and Tetriminos no longer fall. You can place pieces freely without time pressure.
- Line Clearing in Zone: Lines cleared within Zone do not disappear immediately. Instead, they accumulate at the bottom of the playfield.
- Zone Attack: When Zone ends (either by timer running out or manual deactivation), all accumulated lines are cleared simultaneously, often resulting in massive multi-line clears (e.g., 8-line, 10-line, 12-line clears). These yield huge score bonuses and send significant garbage to opponents in competitive modes.
Strategic Applications
- Emergency Clearing: The most common use is to clear a dangerously high stack, bringing it down to a manageable level.
- High Score Chasing: Set up a large number of lines to clear within Zone for massive points.
- Garbage Attack (Multiplayer): In Zone Battle, a well-executed Zone clear can send an overwhelming amount of garbage to your opponent.
- Perfect Clear Setup: Use Zone to meticulously set up an 'All Clear' for a huge bonus.
Learning when and how to use Zone effectively is key to mastering Tetris Effect: Connected.
