The Decaying Colony & Brute Encounter

As you delve deeper into the decaying colony, prepare for a significant challenge: your first encounter with a Brute. This section will guide you through navigating the treacherous environment and provide a winning strategy for defeating this formidable foe.

  1. Navigating the Collapsed Corridor: Upon entering the Decaying Colony section, you'll find yourself in a heavily damaged corridor. Be wary of environmental hazards. Several pipes are leaking steam; time your movements carefully to avoid taking damage. Look for a ventilation shaft on the left wall, slightly obscured by debris. Crouch and proceed through it.
  2. Scavenging the Maintenance Room: The ventilation shaft leads to a small maintenance room. This is a crucial opportunity to restock.
    • On the workbench to your immediate right, you'll find 1x Energy Converter and 2x GRP Batteries.
    • Check the lockers on the far wall for 1x Health Injector and a small amount of credits.
    • A hidden compartment under the floor panel near the entrance contains 1x Rifle Ammo Pack. Use your GRP to pull the panel open.
  3. The Brute's Lair - Preparation is Key: Exiting the maintenance room leads directly into a larger, open area – the Brute's lair. Before dropping down, observe the environment. Notice the explosive barrels strategically placed around the perimeter and the sharp, protruding spikes on some of the walls. These will be vital to your strategy. Ensure your GRP is fully charged and you have at least one Health Injector ready.
  4. Brute Encounter Strategy:
    • Phase 1: Initial Assault & Environmental Damage: The Brute will immediately charge you. Your primary goal in this phase is to use the environment. As it charges, dodge to the side and immediately use your GRP to throw it into an explosive barrel. This will deal significant damage and stun it briefly. Follow up with a few shotgun blasts to its chest.
    • Phase 2: Exposed Weak Point: After taking damage, the Brute will often expose its glowing weak point on its back. This is your window of opportunity. Dodge its attacks, get behind it, and unleash a flurry of pistol or assault rifle fire into the weak point.
    • Phase 3: Melee & Spikes: If you run low on ammo, don't be afraid to engage in melee. The Brute's attacks are powerful but slow. Dodge its swings and counter with your stun baton. Crucially, if you can GRP the Brute and throw it into the wall spikes, it will take massive damage and often be instantly killed if its health is low enough.
    • Resource Management: Throughout the fight, keep an eye on your health and ammo. There are a few scattered ammo boxes and health injectors around the arena, but they are limited. Prioritize using your GRP on explosive barrels and spikes to conserve ammunition.
  5. Post-Brute Loot: Once the Brute is defeated, it will drop a significant amount of credits and often a rare weapon upgrade schematic. collect everything before proceeding.
