One common strategy is to find dungeons with high concentrations of valuable loot, such as Daedric shrines or ancient crypts, and repeatedly clear them. Selling enchanted items and Daedric gear will net you significant gold. Investing in your Mercantile skill allows you to haggle for better prices, both when buying and selling. Another trick is to join the Thieves Guild and sell stolen goods to fences, though this requires good stealth skills. Some players also exploit the spellmaker to create cheap, high-value spells that can be sold for profit, though this often requires a high Mysticism skill.
