Spellcrafting Guide
Morrowind's spellcrafting system allows you to create custom spells, offering unparalleled flexibility in your magical approach. By combining various magical effects, you can tailor spells to your exact needs, from devastating combat magic to unique utility spells.
To craft spells, you must have a sufficiently high Mysticism skill and access to an Altar of Spellcrafting. These altars are typically found in Mages Guild halls, Telvanni towers, and other places of arcane sificance. The process involves selecting effects, setting magnitudes and durations, and naming your creation.
Requirements for Spellcrafting
- Mysticism Skill: A minimum skill level is required, increasing with the complexity of spells you wish to create. Higher Mysticism allows for more effects and greater power.
- Altar of Spellcrafting: These are fixed locations where spellcrafting can occur.
- Magicka: Crafting spells consumes a sificant amount of magicka, so ensure you have a large pool or regeneration.
- Gold: While not directly spent, the cost of training Mysticism and acquiring necessary spells can be substantial.
The Spellcrafting Process
- Access the Altar: Interact with an Altar of Spellcrafting.
- Select Effects: Choose from a list of available magical effects. These are often derived from spells you have learned or scrolls you possess.
- Set Magnitude and Duration: Determine the power and length of each effect. Higher magnitudes and durations consume more magicka.
- Choose Target: Decide if the spell targets yourself, an enemy, an area, or an object.
- Name Your Spell: Give your custom spell a unique and descriptive name.
- Cast the Spell: The spell is added to your spell list, ready to be cast.
Tips for Effective Spellcrafting
- Combine Synergistic Effects: For example, combine a damage effect with a weakness effect (e.g., Fire Damage + Weakness to Fire).
- Focus on Utility: Create spells for Feather, Water Walking, or Levitation for easier exploration.
- Create Efficient Spells: Des spells that are cost-effective for their power.
- Experiment: Don't be afraid to try different combinations to see what works best.
- Consider Magicka Cost: Balance the power of your spell with its magicka cost, especially for frequent use.
Example Custom Spells
- 'Balmora's Bane': Fire Damage (50 pts on target, 5 sec) + Weakness to Fire (50% for 10 sec). A potent offensive spell.
- 'Swift Traveler': Feather (100 pts for 300 sec) + Water Walking (1 pt for 300 sec). For enhanced carrying capacity and traversal.
- 'Silent Step': Invisibility (50 pts for 10 sec) + Chameleon (50% for 10 sec). For ultimate stealth.
