Character Creation & Race Selection Guide
Your journey in Morrowind begins with character creation, a crucial step that defines your starting attributes, skills, and overall playstyle. Choosing the right race and specializing your skills early on will sificantly impact your experience and effectiveness throughout the game.
Morrowind features ten playable races, each with unique starting attributes, skill bonuses, and racial abilities. These are broadly categorized into Men, Mer (Elves), and Beast Races. Men include Nords, Imperials, Bretons, and Redguards, generally offering balanced attributes and combat-focused skills. Mer include High Elves (Altmer), Dark Elves (Dunmer), Wood Elves (Bosmer), and Orcs (Orsimer). Dunmer, being native to Morrowind, possess innate resistances to fire and a bonus to Destruction magic, making them a popular choice. Orcs are known for their strength and resilience. Beast Races include Argonians and Khajiit, offering unique resistances and abilities, such as Argonians' water breathing and disease resistance, and Khajiit's agility and stealth bonuses. Consider your preferred playstyle: a warrior might benefit from the strength and endurance of an Orc or Nord, while a mage would find the intelligence and willpower bonuses of a High Elf or Breton advantageous. Rogues and assassins might lean towards the agility and stealth of a Khajiit or Wood Elf.
Beyond race, you'll select a births, which grants a permanent bonus, such as increased magicka, health, or a unique spell. The Mage births boosts magicka, the Warrior enhances combat skills, and the Thief improves agility and luck. Other birthss offer more specialized benefits. Finally, you'll choose your major and minor skills. Major skills increase faster and are crucial for leveling up. It's generally advisable to select skills that al with your chosen race and births, and your intended playstyle. For example, a warrior might choose Long Blade, Heavy Armor, and Block as major skills, while a mage would focus on Destruction, Mysticism, and Alteration. Don't neglect minor skills, as they can still be developed and offer valuable utility. Experimentation is key; Morrowind allows for a great deal of character customization, so choose a combination that excites you and sets you on the path to becoming the hero Vvardenfell needs.
