Character Creation & Starting Out
Character creation in The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind begins after you are awakened by Jiub, a Dunmer prisoner, who asks for your name. This interaction marks the start of defining your character, setting the stage for an open-ended role-playing experience where your choices shape your journey.
Once character creation is complete and you are freed, the game world becomes an interactive environment. While the main quest focuses on the player as the Nerevarine, the game supports an open-play style, allowing you to pursue various paths:
- Become a nimble thief, picking pockets and fencing stolen goods.
- Join the Mages Guild and ascend to the rank of Arch-Mage.
- Operate as an assassin, stalking targets in the shadows.
- Become a noble member of one of the Great Houses.
- Explore unique roles such as a vampire or a werewolf.
Your actions influence how other characters perceive you, leading to realistic repercussions based on whether you play as an evil character or a noble do-gooder.
