Skills & Their Governing Attributes

Morrowind's character progression is deeply tied to its skill system, where each skill is governed by one or two primary attributes. Understanding this relationship is crucial for effective character development, as your chosen attributes directly influence how quickly you can improve your skills and how effective those skills will be in practice. This system encourages strategic planning for your character build.

Attributes are your character's core statistics, such as Strength, Intelligence, Willpower, Agility, Endurance, Personality, Speed, and Luck. These attributes provide passive bonuses and determine the effectiveness of related skills. For example, a high Strength attribute will make your Blade, Blunt, and Axe skills more potent in combat, while a high Intelligence attribute will increase your Magicka pool and the effectiveness of your magical skills.

Skills represent your character's proficiencies in various areas, from combat and magic to stealth and crafting. Each skill has a base rating, and its effectiveness is further enhanced by its governing attribute(s). When you use a skill, you gain experience towards improving it. The rate at which you gain this experience, and the maximum potential of the skill, is influenced by the corresponding attribute.
