Welcome to Morrowind! Before diving into the rich world of Vvardenfell, it's crucial to understand the game's unique terminology. From attributes and skills to common abbreviations and gameplay mechanics, a solid grasp of these terms will make your journey smoother and more enjoyable. This section breaks down the essential vocabulary you'll encounter as you explore this vast and complex land.

Core Attributes

Your character's fundamental capabilities are defined by their attributes. These are:

  • Strength (STR): Affects melee damage and encumbrance.
  • Intelligence (INT): Influences Magicka capacity and spellcasting effectiveness.
  • Willpower (WIL): Determines Magicka regeneration and resistance to certain magic.
  • Endurance (END): Impacts Health and resistance to poison and disease.

Major Skills

These are the skills you'll actively use and train. They are divided into combat, magic, and miscellaneous categories. Increasing your major skill levels is the primary way to level up your character.

Minor Skills

These skills provide passive benefits or are less frequently used. While they don't directly contribute to leveling up, they can still be valuable.

Common Abbreviations

  • HP: Health Points
  • MP: Magicka Points

Fatigue: This is a crucial resource that depletes with actions like attacking, casting spells, and running. Low Fatigue sificantly reduces your effectiveness in combat and other actions. Resting or using potions can restore Fatigue.

Disposition: This represents an NPC's attitude towards you, influenced by your Personality, Speechcraft, and past actions. Higher disposition leads to better prices and more helpful interactions.

Combat Rolls: Morrowind's combat is dice-roll based. Your chance to hit, block, or evade depends on your relevant skill, attribute, and the target's stats.
