Equipment & Inventory

Manage your equipment and inventory efficiently in Morrowind. Understand carry weight, equipment slots, and item durability to streamline your adventures.

Efficiently managing your equipment and inventory is crucial for survival and success in Morrowind. Understanding how to equip items, manage your carry weight, and organize your belongings will streamline your adventures across Vvardenfell.

The Inventory Screen

Your inventory is accessed through the main menu. It displays all the items you are currently carrying, categorized for easier management. The screen typically shows your character's equipped gear on one side and your carried items on the other.

Equipment Slots

Your character has several slots for equipped items:

  • Head: Helmets or circlets.
  • Neck: Amulets.
  • Torso: Body armor (cuirass).
  • Hands: Gauntlets.
  • Wrists: Bracers.
  • Fingers: Rings.
  • Belt: Belts.
  • Feet: Boots.
  • Main Hand: Weapon or shield.
  • Off Hand: Shield or secondary weapon (if dual-wielding is supported, though typically one-handed in Morrowind).
  • Clothing: Some items can be worn as clothing underneath armor.

Equipping items from your inventory into these slots will grant you their benefits, such as increased defense, damage, or magical properties.

Carry Weight and Encumbrance

Each character has a maximum carry weight, determined primarily by their Strength (STR) attribute. Exceeding this limit will result in encumbrance, slowing your movement speed and potentially preventing you from running. It's important to manage your inventory to stay within your carry weight limit.

Item Management Strategies

  • Sort Your Inventory: Regularly sort your inventory by type, weight, or value to easily find what you need.
  • Store Unnecessary Items: If you have a base of operations (e.g., a rented room or a guild hall), store items you don't need to carry.
  • Sell Loot: Regularly visit merchants to sell unwanted items and weapons.
  • Use Containers: Some containers in the world can be used to store items, though be aware that items stored in containers that respawn may disappear.
  • Prioritize Essential Gear: Always ensure you have essential items like healing potions, repair items, and your primary weapons and armor readily accessible.

Item Durability

Weapons and armor have durability. When their condition drops too low, they become less effective. You can repair items using the "Repair" service offered by blacksmiths or by using repair items.

Unique Items and Artifacts

Morrowind features many unique items and powerful artifacts. These often have special properties and should be carefully managed and utilized. Some artifacts may have drawbacks or specific requirements for use.
