Cyrodiil is a land rich in history and lore, much of which is contained within the countless books scattered throughout its cities, towns, and dungeons. These books range from historical accounts and spell tomes to skill books that permanently increase your character's attributes. Collecting and reading these books not only provides valuable knowledge and gameplay benefits but also immerses You in the deep lore of The Elder Scrolls universe.
Skill books are particularly important, as reading them grants a permanent +1 bonus to a specific skill. These books are often found in libraries, mage guilds, private residences, and within dungeons. Identifying and collecting all skill books is a common goal for completionists, as it can sificantly boost a character's overall power and effectiveness in combat and other activities. Some skill books are rarer than others, requiring dedicated exploration to find.
Types of Books and their sificance:
- Skill Books: Grant a permanent +1 bonus to a specific skill upon reading. Examples include 'The Black Arrow, Part 1' (Archery) or 'Night Falls on Sentinel' (Blade).
- Lore Books: Provide background information on Tamriel's history, races, religions, and magic. Examples include 'The Argonian Account' or 'The Firmament.'
- Spell Tomes: Teach new spells to Mages Guild members or can be learned by any character with the appropriate skill.
- Quest Books: Some books are directly related to quests, providing clues or necessary information.
- Miscellaneous Books: Offer flavor text and world-building without direct gameplay impact.
Finding all the books, especially skill books, requires thorough exploration of every nook and cranny of Cyrodiil. Libraries in the Imperial City, such as the one in the Arcane University, are excellent starting points. Many dungeons also contain hidden stashes of books, rewarding diligent adventurers.
