Item & Equipment Index
Navigating the vast array of items and equipment in The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion can be daunting. From potent weapons and protective armor to useful alchemical ingredients and magical artifacts, understanding what each item does and where to find it is crucial for success. This index provides a general overview of common item categories and their sificance.
Weapons
Weapons are your primary means of dealing damage in combat. They are categorized by skill type: Blade (swords, daggers), Blunt (maces, axes, hammers), and Archery (bows). Look for weapons with higher base damage and consider their enchantment potential. Unique weapons, often found through quests or in hidden locations, offer superior stats or special effects.
Armor
Armor protects you from physical damage. It's divided into Light Armor and Heavy Armor. Light armor offers less protection but is lighter and quieter, while heavy armor provides superior defense at the cost of mobility and stealth. Individual armor pieces include helmets, cuirasses, gauntlets, greaves, and boots. Some unique armor pieces offer powerful enchantments.
Clothing & Accessories
While not offering sificant physical protection, clothing and accessories like rings and amulets can be enchanted with magical effects. These can provide bonuses to attributes, skills, resistances, or grant spell effects. Many merchants sell basic clothing, while enchanted versions are often found as loot or quest rewards.
Alchemy Ingredients
Cyrodiil is rich with flora and fauna that can be harvested for alchemical purposes. These ingredients are used to craft potions and poisons. Each ingredient has up to four alchemical effects, and combining ingredients with shared effects can create powerful concoctions. Notable ingredients include Void Salts, Ginkgo Leaf, and Dragon's Tongue.
Magical Items
This broad category includes enchanted weapons and armor, spell scrolls, and unique artifacts. Spell scrolls provide one-time use of a spell, useful for mages who haven't learned the spell or for quick access to a needed effect. Daedric artifacts, obtained from completing Daedric Prince quests, are often among the most powerful items in the game.
Miscellaneous Items
This category encompasses a wide range of items, including:
- Quest Items: Items required to complete specific quests. They cannot be dropped or sold until the quest is finished.

- Books: Offer lore, skill increases (Skill Books), or can be read for story elements.
- Food & Drink: Primarily for role-playing, though some may offer minor temporary buffs.
