Character Progression
Character progression in Oblivion is a multifaceted system that rewards players for actively engaging with the game's diverse skills. Unlike many RPGs where experience is gained solely through combat, Oblivion allows you to improve your character by simply using their skills, whether it's swinging a sword, casting a spell, or sneaking past guards. This organic progression system ensures that every action contributes to your character's overall growth.
Your character's development is primarily driven by leveling up. Each time you gain enough experience through skill usage, you'll level up, which in turn grants you points to increase your core attributes: Strength, Intelligence, Willpower, Agility, Speed, Endurance, Personality, and Luck. The number of points you receive for each attribute is influenced by how many times you've used skills governed by that attribute since your last level-up, encouraging strategic skill usage to maximize attribute bonuses.
Beyond attribute increases, leveling up also allows you to select a perk from one of your major skills. These perks offer sificant passive bonuses or unlock new active abilities, further specializing your character. For example, a high Blade skill might unlock a perk that increases critical hit chance, while a high Destruction skill could reduce the Magicka cost of spells.
Key elements of character progression:
- Skill-Based Leveling: Gain experience by using skills.
- Attribute Increases: Distribute points upon leveling to enhance core stats.
- Perk System: Unlock special abilities and bonuses based on major skill levels.
- Synergy: Focus on using skills related to desired attributes for optimal gains.
By understanding and strategically utilizing these progression systems, you can craft a unique and powerful character capable of conquering any challenge Cyrodiil throws your way.
