Horse Ownership & Riding

While you can acquire horses through various means, understanding their care, limitations, and the benefits of ownership can greatly enhance your adventures.
Initially, you might rely on fast travel or simply walking. However, acquiring a horse sificantly speeds up overland travel, making exploration more efficient and less tedious. Different horses may have varying stats, and while direct 'ownership' in the traditional sense is limited, securing a reliable steed is a practical necessity for any adventurer.
Acquiring and Using Horses:
- Purchasing Horses: The most straightforward way to get a horse is to purchase one from stables located in major cities like the Imperial City, Skingrad, Cheydinhal, and Bravil. Each stable typically offers a few horses for sale.
- Stolen Horses: You can 'borrow' horses that belong to NPCs, but this carries the risk of the owner reporting you, potentially leading to a bounty. It's generally advisable to purchase your own.
- Horse Stats: Horses have basic stats such as health and speed, though these are not as extensively detailed as player stats. Some horses may feel slightly faster or more responsive than others.
- Riding Mechanics: Once you have a horse, you can mount it by approaching it and pressing the appropriate action button. You can then control its movement using the standard movement controls.
- Combat While Mounted: While you can engage in some forms of combat while mounted, it is often more effective to dismount for precise attacks or spellcasting. Ranged attacks are more viable from horseback.
