Welcome, aspiring Tribute Grandmasters! This guide will walk you through the essential steps to mastering the strategic card game, Tales of Tribute, introduced with the High Isle Chapter. Whether you're aiming to climb the leaderboards or simply enjoy a challenging diversion, understanding the core mechanics and optimal strategies is key.

Getting Started: The First Steps

Before you can challenge the best, you need to learn the ropes and unlock your first decks. The journey begins in High Isle.

Acquire the High Isle Chapter: Tales of Tribute is exclusive to the High Isle Chapter. Ensure you own or have access to this expansion.
Initiate the Questline: Head to the city of Gonfalon Bay in High Isle. Look for the quest giver, Breda, near the Gonfalon Bay Docks. She will offer the quest "Tales of Tribute: A New Card Game."
Complete the Tutorial: Follow Breda's instructions to learn the basic rules of Tales of Tribute. This tutorial will introduce you to the board, card types, and the objective of the game.
Unlock Your First Deck: Upon completing the tutorial, you will unlock your first Patron Deck: Saint Pelin. This deck is a solid foundation for understanding the game's core mechanics.

Understanding the Core Mechanics

Tales of Tribute is a deck-building game where two players compete to earn Prestige or satisfy Patron requirements. Here's a breakdown of the fundamental elements:

The Board and Resources

Tavern: This is the central market where new cards appear each round. You can purchase cards from the Tavern using Coin.
Coin: The primary resource used to purchase cards from the Tavern. Cards with a Coin icon in the top left corner generate Coin.
Power: Used to attack your opponent's agents or activate certain card effects. Cards with a Power icon in the top left corner generate Power.
Prestige: The victory condition. Accumulate 40 Prestige to win, or satisfy the requirements of two Patrons.
Patrons: Special NPCs that offer unique abilities and can be "favored" to gain advantages or contribute to victory.
Agents: Cards played to your field that provide ongoing effects, generate resources, or can be attacked by your opponent.
Contracts: Cards that offer powerful one-time effects or ongoing bonuses.

Winning the Game

There are two primary ways to achieve victory in Tales of Tribute:

Prestige Victory: Be the first player to reach 40 Prestige. Your current Prestige is displayed on your player board.
Patron Victory: Gain the favor of two different Patrons. This means having both Patrons in your "favored" state simultaneously. Each Patron has specific conditions to be favored, often involving playing certain cards or spending resources.

Expanding Your Collection: Unlocking New Decks

To truly master Tales of Tribute, you'll need to acquire all eight Patron Decks. Each deck offers a unique playstyle and strategic depth. Here's how to find them:

Patron Deck Locations and Quests

Each Patron Deck is tied to a specific quest or achievement. Prioritize unlocking these to diversify your strategies.

Saint Pelin: Unlocked automatically after completing the initial tutorial quest, "Tales of Tribute: A New Card Game," in Gonfalon Bay, High Isle.
Duke of Crows: Complete the quest "A Duke of Crows" received from Master Razhamad in Gonfalon Bay. This quest involves a series of challenges and story elements.
Ansei Frandar Hunding: Earned by reaching the "Novice" rank in Tales of Tribute. Continue playing matches against NPCs or other players to increase your rank.
Grandmaster Delmene Hlaalu: Complete the quest "The Tournament of the Honored" from Master Razhamad in Gonfalon Bay. This quest involves participating in the Gonfalon Bay Tribute Tournament.
Sorcerer-King Orgnum: Found in the depths of the Coral Aerie dungeon. You must complete the dungeon on any difficulty to receive this deck.
Red Eagle, King of the Reach: Acquired by completing the quest "The Reach's Tribute" from Cynric Ginise in Markarth, The Reach.
Druid King: Located in the Earthen Root Enclave dungeon. Complete the dungeon on any difficulty to obtain this deck.
Rahjin the Purring Liar: Unlocked by completing the quest "The Missing Tribute" from Za'ji in Senchal, Southern Elsweyr.

Advanced Strategies and Tips

Deck Synergy: Focus on building decks that synergize well. For example, the Duke of Crows deck excels at generating Coin and drawing cards, making it pair well with decks that require high Coin investment.
Patron Management: Don't neglect the Patrons! Activating their abilities at the right time can turn the tide of a game. Always consider which Patron you want to favor and when.
Agent Control: Agents can provide significant advantages. Prioritize removing your opponent's powerful agents using Power, or protect your own with defensive cards.
Adaptability: No two games are the same. Be prepared to adapt your strategy based on the cards available in the Tavern and your opponent's plays.
Practice Against NPCs: Before diving into ranked play, practice against the various Tribute NPCs found across Tamriel. They offer a good way to test new strategies and learn deck interactions without the pressure of competitive play. Look for NPCs with the Tribute icon above their heads in major cities and quest hubs.
