Crafting Stations in Homes (Hearthfire)
The Hearthfire DLC introduces the ability to build and customize your own homes, and with them, a suite of essential crafting stations. These stations are not just decorative; they are vital for any aspiring artisan looking to create powerful gear, potions, and enchantments. Building a home with the right stations can sificantly streamline your crafting process and reduce reliance on visiting other settlements.
Each of the three buildable homes – Lakeview Manor, Hjerim (after purchase and some questing), and Breezehome (after purchase) – can be expanded to include several crafting stations. The primary benefit of having these stations within your own home is convenience. No longer will you need to travel to Whiterun to use a forge, or to Morthal for an alchemy lab. You can craft, brew, and enchant right at your doorstep. The most crucial stations to prioritize are the Forge, Tanning Rack, and Workbench for smithing; the Alchemy Lab for potion-making; and the Enchanting Table for imbuing items with magical properties. As you upgrade your home, you can also add specialized stations. For instance, a Smelter is invaluable for processing ore into ingots, and a Cookpot allows for the creation of restorative food items. The Greenhouse and Garden plots offer a sustainable source of alchemy ingredients, further enhancing your potion-making capabilities. When building your home, consider the layout and proximity of these stations. Placing the forge, tanning rack, and workbench close together can speed up smithing workflows. Similarly, having the alchemy lab and enchanting table in the same wing of the house can make managing your magical crafting more efficient. Don't forget the Honing Stone and Grindstone, which are essential for improving weapons.
