Your journey begins in Helgen, a prisoner on a cart heading towards execution. This introductory quest serves as a tutorial, teaching you basic movement and combat. After a dramatic interruption by Alduin, the World-Eater, you'll escape the burning town. You'll be given a choice to follow either Hadvar (Imperial Legion) or Ralof (Stormcloaks). This choice only affects who you escape with and who you fight during the escape; it does not lock you into a faction for the Civil War questline later on. Loot everything you can from the dead soldiers and the surrounding environment.
Objectives:
- Escape Helgen Keep.
- Follow Hadvar or Ralof.
- Defeat the attacking enemies.
- Exit the cave.
Strategy:
During the escape, stick close to your chosen companion. They will provide basic combat support and guide you through the burning keep. Pay attention to the prompts for basic attacks, blocking, and looting. pick up a weapon and some armor from the fallen soldiers. There's a small chest near the end of the cave with some gold and minor items. Once outside, you'll be free to explore, but your companion will suggest heading to Riverwood.
